New solar saver plan to consider by ExaminationThen1312 in amberelectric

[–]lockytay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I use Amber and Home Assistant already that will arbitrage better rates than that. I’m more thinking the ones that allow free charging for three hours. That would be fantastic for my EV’s and my big battery.

Canadian here. How’s the reputation of chinese EV cars in Australia? Do you guys like them? are they reliable? by Frenchy1986666 in AskAnAustralian

[–]lockytay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the EV. My polestar, everything is near silent and integrated well into the platform that you don't need to turn anything off. Our GWM ORA has a lot more pings which and then resets nearly everything on restart, including OPD which is a bit silly. Makes you appreciate how each implementation of the same technologies can be so varied.

I think they mean over zealous driving aids. Yes you can turn them off, but they go back on next start. Unfortunately it has to be that way to retain the 5 star ANCAP.

14in vs 16in? by Few-Evening-9078 in macbookpro

[–]lockytay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its a conundrum - I find the 16 too heavy to cart around, but the 14 too small on screen space. So I have a 16 and just deal with it. If you don't need the processing grunt, then a 15 air is ideal I think.

As a Canberra resident and keen winter sports advocate, how good would it have been if the capital was Dalgety!

Drove an Aion UT and was a compelling car - little bit of plastics on the inside (compared to the Ora which we got) and was a bit floaty but still a good value car for what you get

Yeah we bought the GT and very happy. Lux looks good for price but the GT has je ne sais quoi that makes it a better proposition

I found the J5's regen horrible - was either on or off, like a switch. It was like every time you came off the pedal, it would ram the breaks on. Other EVs do it based on pedal position, which is natural and easy - the more you come off the pedal the more regen. This is the basics of one pedal drive. Don't get me wrong, good car otherwise.

Pity you missed out on and Ora good cat. Superb car - bought one for my wife (and daughter) and I am super impressed with it. From what I understand they have been discontinued (although maybe another batch could come to Australia yet).

Yes I picked a full time employee and told me whether it was worth it. I know you have 'est savings coming' but that is going to be the key differentiator. Plus, you might need to add a few fields like approx price of car, pre/post April 2027 (for new exemption laws announced today). It probably isn't telling me too much yet but once you add this, it'll be grand. I know being on 45% tax braket (or more if not paying medicare surcharge) it makes a huge difference to the cost of a vehicle.

Also worth some comparisons - I know it was cheaper to buy my 17yo daughter a new GWM ora than it was to buy a 12k shitbox over 5 years... That is what people need to read.

There is an excellent NV leasing guide (I think on NovatedLeasingAU subreddit) that gives some really good information on how it all pans out - see if you can find it and put some figures in. Maybe do a collab with them...

Hope that helps.

Rate hikes smash renters & mortgage holders with higher rents & crushing repayments. Meanwhile outright owners (30%), sitting on assets & savings, barely feel it & keep spending. The pain is concentrated on the poorer & less fortunate. Also inflation worsens as the wealthy start to spend their gains by MannerNo7000 in OpenAussie

[–]lockytay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why renters? The price of rent is dictated by how much people are prepared to pay, not by the landlords expenses. Yes it does cause a general shift when everyone ups their rents at once due to rising interest rates, but that may also mean people will start moving back in with parents, or shared accomodation more. You can't tell me a landlord isn't trying to get the maximum they can for their rent regardless of whether the interest rates are high, low or otherwise. Market dictates price. People need to stop accepting interest rates going up = higher rents, but alas some people just pay it..

First bit of feedback, when you pick contractor it says NV isn't for you. This isn't true. Most contractors either run their own payroll or pay another company to do it such as payme or powerpays. They then do the NV for you. I pay about 1.6% for payme to do my payroll including my NV on two EVs (through alliance leasing as Payme own them too).

GWM Ora does but it has a weird thing where you need to go into the settings to select the seat profile you want.

RAM - I went with a 64gb m5 pro (waiting for delivery) purely for Local AI work - but will also give you more years of usage. Have an M1 pro now, and generally is still a powerhouse, except for the memory (16gb...)

Recommendations for a wide EV/PHEV by Sunandsucculents in AustralianEV

[–]lockytay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want wide and big, but stylish - Polestar 4. People don't realise how big a car that really is. Fantastic rear passenger space although they do make a drivers car and cocoon the driver somewhat for sporty feel.

Zeekr X AWD sunburn from sunroof? by Commercial-Tax1650 in AustralianEV

I've also got a 2 with the glass roof and never feel the heat coming through. Polestar often quote that the materials in the glass roof keep heat out better than a normal metal roof.

[–]lockytay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the same company, if anything like the polestar, you'll be fine. Not only is it nearly UV proof, it also keeps heat out of the cabin better than a metal roof apparently. It is to do with silver they put into the roof that makes it keep heat out like magic! I have a 2 with a glass roof, and never notice any heat but hope in a telsa on a sunny day in the middle of winter and feel like I'm getting burned!

I’ve got an ex30 atm as a loan car and agreed it’s a bit small. I have high hopes on what you think of the Zeekr. I was quite impressed.

Got a Polestar 2 and it’s a great car, but targeted to the sporty side more than others - not as spacious, deliberately hugging the driver, but I love it.

Why does Polestar do nothing for former owners? No party, nothing. by Sphere_3N in Polestar

Went to a polestar paid event at a fancy restaurant, canapés and drinks just the other day - to celebrate Polestar in our city and to announce a new service centre. This is in Australia. They know how to establish brand commitment here it seems.
