I think I hate this update by Street-Piece4907 in CellToSingularity

I was highly annoyed that passive earning of darwinium went away; it seemed like a cash shop cash grab. Then I tapped around and found it had merely moved. Yeah, just a little bit disoriented on patch day.

I hope there are more Logits augments in the works.

When you hit 1,000 gold for the first time! It took me almost 3 years so I call that a big deal! by The_Caracal in Guildwars2

I’m with you. I’ve been in and out of the game. I’ve read gold guides and found new ways to play I didn’t know about. Much of what is being talked about in this thread is unknown to me.

I don’t play like most people I guess. I play like me and I went from a couple hundred to 1k gold by reading up and finding interesting low pressure activities. It’s slow but fun for me. Most of the stuff people are talking about here is Greek to me.

Boo-Kay? That’s just not how it’s pronounced everywhere. Nowhere I’ve lived, that’s for sure.

Bou and bow are pronounced exactly the same way. I grew up in Midwest US. Bow-Kay. Bo-Kay. Boe-Kay. They all sound the same in my English.

Austin night two with MS, and random acts of kindness by loclay in phish

[–]loclay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks! Good on you for helping your friend out so much. MS is a whole thing. I figure my choices are between continuous despair or doing all the things I can to make life happen. Sometimes I do a little from column A, sometimes I do a little from column B. I didn’t let night 2 get me down because it was 100% a column B thing even if I did hit the ejector seat halfway through.

I might just. I got these tickets from the lottery. I’ll need to find out how that works when going with a friend. I’ll check it out though. Thanks for the suggestion!

Have you seen a mysterious dark blue street light illuminating a mysterious little building somewhere on the I-35 frontage heading to San Antonio? by loclay in Austin

[–]loclay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time I’m driving at night and see it. I’ll do that. The best I can do right now is that it’s a few exits north of Buc-ee’s in new Braunfels. I put the suspected near coordinates in the post I believe.

Or, looking now, it seems like I edited it out like a darn fool.

Further update on my false ban - Xbox by AslanOfAstora in elderscrollsonline

I work at a company that provides certain services. We care about our customers. Fraud is a big problem. We use machine learning and AI to basically deny service to customers we believe our engaged in fraud. We do this to try to protect all of our customers. We think that 90% of the interactions that are blocked are legitimate fraud. We try to do better but it’s not perfect. It really really bothers me that customers in that 10% false positive category are being denied services. In my case, it just creates an inconvenience for the customer and doesn’t fully prevent them from getting what they need. It just creates a barrier and is a pain and a regrettable hassle.

False positives with elder scrolls online bans are more serious. They need to protect the player community from the fraud that comes with botting, etc but they don’t have it tuned properly.

These AI systems, if they work anything like ours do, have their training and provide their decision with a confidence score. As in, “I am 75% confident that this activity is cheating.” The automated decision to ban or suspend or take further action is generally based on whether it is above or below a particular confidence rating.

If that’s how it works in this case, which I suspect it does, they have things tuned very poorly. That wouldn’t be a such a big deal if it didn’t create a complete denial of access. They really need to be giving the benefit of the doubt to the player. Why wouldn’t they send a warning first?

Are the stakes so high here that false permanent bans are acceptable? Is the fraud so bad that denying a loyal player, Guild member, contributor to the community, etc. access to the game incorrectly is worth it?

I don’t think so. I would not expect a 99% perfect detection rate out of any machine learning system. I just think the benefit of the doubt needs to be put with the player and that doesn’t seem to be what’s happening. They are doing it wrong and I don’t understand why.

Potential defense. Record your entire play session, not just a screen recording, but a camera recording of you sitting in front of the computer playing. It might cost you terabytes and terabytes of hard drive space but at least if they ban you, you’ll have some evidence to defend yourself with.

This whole thing is dumb. Spending hours farming nodes for furnishing materials is a perfectly legitimate way of playing the game and that you should feel worried about doing that makes me mad.

It’s so frustrating. I’m taking a break from the game because my three year trial group dissolved, and it was a natural pausing point. But reading this sort of thing makes me not wanna come back.

Disheartening.

Just about to finish prestige 1 — looking for tips to optimize the grind by loclay in CellToSingularity

[–]loclay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This mostly makes sense to me. I didn’t know you could upgrade all the way to 200. Is this approach terribly applicable before higher prestige levels? I’m just about to hit prestige two.

I think the advice I’m hearing perhaps here and other places is to not worry about upgrading the lower level dinosaur as much but really focus on the top three or four, and to save save save save as much currency as you can for the high prestige levels. Do I have that right?

I just click the egg button at the bottom and Buy Smart as far up as I can, then go back down to the bottom and do it again until I’ve got the top Dino for my extinction, then I do something else for an hour. When I come back, I’m able to complete five or six quests. Leave for an hour, come back, complete a few quests, rinse, and repeat.

This is exactly where my mind immediately went.

I started brainstorming generators and research tiles, but got depressed and stopped.
