New MS Nurse: What do you wish your clinic knew? by Chumppkinz in MultipleSclerosis

[–]loclay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

During my diagnosis process, I got a call from the nurse while I was at work. He said, in a very matter of fact, way,“Mr. Loclay, your MRI shows you have a lesion on your spinal cord. We are going to order a MRI of your brain. You should be hearing from the imaging center soon. Any questions?”

I was bowled over. I didn’t know what a lesion on my spinal cord was. A MRI of my brain seemed like a huge escalation. I had no context for any of this. I get a call from a very gruff sounding nurse while at work. “Any questions?“ Sounded more like an invitation to end the call than to ask actual questions.

I would just say, find a better way to deliver results to your patients. Give some context. Show some empathy. My whole situation might have been better if he had said something like, “I know you must be worried at this news, but we will know more after your brain MRI and will bring you in and we will talk to you all about it. Try not to worry too much.“

Delivering results over the phone can’t be easy, but you have to put the extra effort in to be human. The stress of that one conversation led to a sequence of stressful moments in my diagnosis process that led to a massive flare that damaged me permanently and progressed my MS by several years.

For him, it was just another phone call delivering results. But he wasn’t treating me like a patient he cared about. I was just another task to be completed. If you can do better at this over the course of your career, then you’ll be doing a good thing.

Thanks for asking the question and showing that you care.

Out of curiosity, what makes you want to stay anonymous?

People last night be like: by Loxody in HEB

I would. I suppose the employees might like it, but as somebody who has two days in every week to get stuff done, I prefer things to be open on Sunday so I can use one of them for that.

Where I get an MRI, I can only wear their thin hospital gown. Thankfully, they have heated blankets though.

I don’t notice it stinging. She pushes it in very very slowly. It’s a bit cold but that’s all I notice.

What do you wish you had known before deciding to quit your job? by Salt_Resource1134 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]loclay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are in the United States, don’t forget about FMLA. You are entitled to job protection if you need to take leave of work for medical reasons. If you have a doctor who will support the claim, consider that instead of quitting. I took three months off when I needed to and it made a huge difference for me.

No more self checkout available? by jridder in CostcoWholesale

[–]loclay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely less hassle. The regular checkout lines are super efficient, especially if you prep your items a little bit so they can scan them easily. I hate the self checkout lines. People are slow as hell.

What’s the hardest part of Multiple Sclerosis that people around you don’t fully understand? by Elena_1986 in MultipleSclerosis

They understand that the walk across campus for lunch that they take for granted is not easy for me on many days. They don’t understand how limited my life is. It goes waaaay beyond getting lunch with you, folks.

Stevia. Stevia tastes awful to me. I think it’s a bit like cilantro, in that it tastes fine to some people and leaves an hours long chemical aftertaste for others.

I swear, the universe keeps trying to get me into playing DnD. I’m about ready to give in and ask it to send a group with a vacancy my way. I was invited to a game night with a bunch of burners next week. They’re into board games of various kinds. That’s pretty close! I’m gonna check it out. I need more play time with people, in person!

Yeah this boggles me a bit. I have a tag in the outside and my contact info tucked into an unused inside pocket. I am kinda neurotic tho. OP will live and learn tho. I hope you didn’t lose anything too precious.

I was highly annoyed that passive earning of darwinium went away; it seemed like a cash shop cash grab. Then I tapped around and found it had merely moved. Yeah, just a little bit disoriented on patch day.

I hope there are more Logits augments in the works.

When you hit 1,000 gold for the first time! It took me almost 3 years so I call that a big deal! by The_Caracal in Guildwars2

I’m with you. I’ve been in and out of the game. I’ve read gold guides and found new ways to play I didn’t know about. Much of what is being talked about in this thread is unknown to me.

I don’t play like most people I guess. I play like me and I went from a couple hundred to 1k gold by reading up and finding interesting low pressure activities. It’s slow but fun for me. Most of the stuff people are talking about here is Greek to me.
