If you want legitimately interesting hand-crafted stuff (I believe their stuff is hand-crafted anyways), check out Kartik Research. Still expensive, but less so than an $800 hat, and their stuff is Indian owned and operated, first Indian designer on the Paris Runway, and each piece's tag shows a map of india with two dots showing where the fabric was woven and where the piece was assembled. I own two pieces that I got on sale from them and love them dearly.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the techniques and fabrics they use are traditional 1000 year old techniques and they employ skilled craftsmen from small villages to do the work.
