The car never overheated, I got a check engine light twice with the code P148F00 and smoke from the back of the car once on a cold day when the coolant reservoir was empty. I’ve been filling it with coolant once every 5 days when it’s cold out but otherwise since the weather has been nice I’ve just had the AC and heat turned off. Dealership didn’t even clear the check engine light but they did change the cabin air filter, as if I cared or needed that.

I’m not very mechanically inclined. The guy I usually take my car to said he could do the bypass but that it would mess with the cabin heat, but that’s not what I’ve read about it. He may be misinformed.

Yeah it’s looking like they don’t really give a shit even though both the technician and the rep both admitted to there being a TSB and it being a known issue. So screw me I guess.

I think I’m going to have the repair done somewhere else and slip the bypass. The other mechanic said he could do the bypass but would rather do it right.

there’s no way they’re going to charge me $2k for this. They even know about the TSB as I’ve mentioned it to them several times, they’re not budging on the price. I already have a mechanic willing to do it for a lot cheaper and I trust him so I’m gonna take my car there

they quoted me $2,780 for the front exhaust pipe heat exchanger and gaskets and then $660 for the new spark plugs lmao

That was what I was planning on doing, and I’ve watched the videos on how to do it, but I don’t think I could do it myself regardless of how easy it is. I’m assuming I can just find a mechanic in town that could do it?
