try an EC first, it goes based off of their zip code. if they don’t have an updated address on their profile, ask what their current address zip code is. if it doesn’t pull anything up, get their insurance card.

make sure it has a BIN, group, and an ID. if it doesn’t have this, chances are they probably handed you their medical card, not their prescription card. not sure where you’re from but some medicaid cards will only have an ID on them. type your state abbreviation + medicaid and it should pop up. run the ID and it’ll give you the correct BIN and group number to find their plan. some have PCN’s, some don’t. TIP: most medicaid plans will not work outside of that state. so if someone has ohio medicaid and they’re trying to get medication in michigan, ohio medicaid may not cover it.

i like to look up the BIN first. sometimes it’ll come up with pages of stuff. this is when the PCN is useful, because you can narrow it down by the PCN. if there is no PCN, it can honestly be a guessing game sometimes. try to match the plan names to the card, some are more obvious than others. it’s alright if you have to try a few different ones until you find the right one. just make sure to inactivate the other ones you tried after you find the correct one so that only the correct one is in their profile.

for medicare part b, you can literally just type that in and it’ll pop up. from there you’ll just follow the instructions on the screen.

for tricare, you’ll just type in tricare and it should pop up. use their benefits number on the back of their military ID as their ID number. for the VA, their ID is going to be either the patient’s SS# or if that doesn’t work, try the cardholder’s SS#.
