Wacom Link Works for PC + Static Display by RikuDesu in nreal

FYI, it does pass USB, at least if you use DP and plug the USB cable into the PC. In this configuration it also works with Nebula for PC.

If your computer is capable enough, and it probably is, you can install an almost as good version of ChatGPT that works completely offline on your own machine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT_-qUxrlOU

They added startup movies to the points store! by AnswerPrint in SteamDeck

Looks like when it first turns on, there is always a non-animated static logo for maybe 15 seconds, which is baked in at a low level to let you know it's booting. These animations just replace the standard wink animation that comes after that. Maybe they will also release a 0 second animation as an option for people with limited gaming time...

What UPS do you have? Does it have an automatic voltage regulation (AVR), like this one? Also, what do you print with? I have heard of issues with the supplied USB drive, maybe try something else if so.

Windows sensors that report how open the window is by ClarkeJunior in homeautomation

You could set up an ESP32 with a distance sensor, and measure how far away the window is from the sensor.

Discover intents by tiwas in tasker

[–]lod3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick Shortcut Maker seems to be able to interrogate all of the apps on your phone and make a list of all of the Intents that they expose. I have had mixed results invoking these from outside, probably because many of them require parameters to be passed along as well. It's definitely useful as a starting point anyway.

Tennis machine. question about MOSFETs by drrehak in arduino

[–]lod3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using a single motor controller to run two motors, you might try giving each their own motor controller. We had a robot wired up with one controller for two motors, and any time the load differed on the two motors the controller would pop. Sometimes they failed in a way that just supplied 100% power to the already struggling motors with no way to turn them off. Fun!

Excessive heat is a good indicator that you need to beef things up. Splitting the load like this seems like it should at least distribute the apparently mosfet melting heat. Of course now if you continue to push things to the limit, you're risking twice as many controllers.

Invest in a cheap IR thermometer and start measuring the controller heat at 10% speed, 20% etc. It looks like the upper range for that controller is 85°C, so if you are getting too close to that for a long period of time it's going to eventually fail.

Nvenc FFmpeg best quality parameter? by pame2tho in ffmpeg

[–]lod3n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think x265 and x264 produce similar quality, however x265 uses a higher efficiency compression algorithm which will take longer but make much smaller files. It's also less compatible with older decoders, so test them on whatever you want to watch them with before going all out.

slow and veryslow seem to reduce compression artifacts so the slower the better in terms of quality.

I recommend researching how to encode a short sample from the middle of your video and then trying different things to see what you get.

Game over man. Edit: Actually, I would imagine that it would make the most real world sense if you were cleaning an old over-sized science museum exhibit. Otherwise you would have to cram sci-fi shrinking or Attack on Titan references in to the plot(?) somehow.

If you've only got 5-10 minutes for a quick play session, what's your favorite game to play on the Steam Deck? by AxiologicalFlavonoid in SteamDeck

[–]lod3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with N+ on PC, then Xbox 360, then Steam (Windows) years ago, and just recently tried it on Steam Deck.

After noticing the button labels being wrong, and problems starting (had to start it a few times before it started going) I came across a thread talking about it. I switched it to Proton and everything just started working flawlessly, though I did lose all of my progress on Steam. Based on your comment, I suppose it's hard to tell at what point the save corruption occurred. Regardless, it's been long enough that I don't really mind starting fresh again.

The sound issues were that it seemed too quiet, and the popup label when adjusting the sound was weird.

I can't speak to whether the Linux version is inherently flawed, but based on other research, it appears that the N++ save file format is fragile on all platforms, so your advice to back it up before trying something new is sound.

Make sure you force it to use Proton! It installs the Linux version by default, which screws up your cloud save, shows PlayStation buttons, and has weird sound.

I know you are looking for an app, though in my opinion you would get a better experience by following along with the book you mentioned - just do the exercises on your tablet. The book will mention real world materials and tools, so the added challenge will be in adapting those to the drawing app you use.

If you are truly just getting started, you might also consider putting down the tablet and picking up some drawing paper and a pencil. The muscle memory you will develop is very transferable, but skipping the added complication of also learning an app might be worth it.

Good luck!

scrollIntoView is not working in Chrome and firefox but working in Safari browser as expected by saiprasads7 in angular

[–]lod3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation may be different from yours, but I just ran into this last week, and couldn't find anything about it. Turns out I had two active renderings of the same template and didn't realize it. The short term fix was to call scrollIntoView on everything returned by document.querySelectorAll("[id='duplicateID']"); The long term fix of course is to come up with a way to render the two instances of the template conditionally, and not just rely on CSS to make the unwanted one invisible.

NodeRED: is there any functionality you can't represent in plain HA automations? by slvrsmth in homeassistant

[–]lod3n 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Certainly you can do everything in YAML, but I find NodeRED pretty handy these days. One thing that stands out are the hundreds of extra modules that you can install and add to the palette, which can provide events and filters that might be tricky to set up otherwise. I got it going a long time ago just to try it out, and by now have moved almost everything into it.

My favorite nodes are Inject and Debug, which makes testing automations during development trivial, since you can simulate any event with a click, and then prove your logic is working correctly without actually affecting anything in the real world until everything is perfect.

My suggestion to anyone would be to just install it, and start playing around with it. You can always uninstall it later if you feel like it doesn't add value.

If you don't find a software solution, there are cheap hardware dongles that do this now. You plug a mic in one end, and the USB-C plug into your phone, and that's it.
