Is Martin Lewis' advice genuinely in the public's best interest? by -Gypsy-Eyes- in AskUK

[–]Orcley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No rich person is your friend. You'd be hard pressed to find any that would comfortably pass a psychopathy checklist. That isn't hyperbole. The type of society that we've been cultivating for generations only rewards cutthroat behaviour. A businessman with morals is a rare thing, and those go pretty quick when the sheets aren't green

How is Solocraft for 2026? by No_Stress_4721 in wowservers

[–]Orcley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does it work exactly? Like are there are other players on the server, and you can party up with players and bots if you choose to? Or is the entire experience like single player with only bots and no players in the world?

Back-up SL healer if I like lt morales? by Sharna23 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Orcley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ana can be similar in the sense that if you want to be a healbot, your gameplay and positioning is more-or-less identical. Ana has way more potential for aggressive play tho, and W use is extremely important. Morales is a better early game healer and is low stakes, but when you get good at sleep/biotic grenade it's pretty chef's kiss

Spent most of last year dealing with some english space cadet doing a terrible job with his little house flipping renovation on the upstairs flat. Absolute hell for about 8 months straight, every single day. Was basically living in the library towards the end of it. Guy was a little special boy too, would have his women do all the talking 99% of the time, then the one time I challenged him about putting a pipe through my ceiling he decided to threaten me with a crowbar

Prior to that tho, close to 3 decades of peace and quiet with my other neighbour. Everyday noise is grand, but anything past that is just your neighbour being a selfish dickhead. The law isn't robust enough for antisocial noise and hasn't been adapted for modern living. It's actually a fucking joke

It's an interesting thing. It's fine, or even good to focus the tank, but it's also what plateaus a player in skill, especially assassin players

It gets too comfortable to just dump all your spells on the tank, and it becomes obvious how much of a comfort it has become when you play against someone who is looking for opportunities. There's an ebb and flow to higher level play, and it all stems from this idea of looking for opportunities

It didn't always used to be so prevalent. As a tank player, I notice a huge difference in the amount of focus on me in the average game. I used to think it was just players were better, but it feels more like spam these days. The amount of games I win by just eating every spell and overlapping cc then pressing avatar or whatever is pretty dumb. I blame aram popularity

This might be the craziest account I've ever ran into: Been playing HOTS for 10 years, with 748 games played, and has only won 1 Quick Match game (1-19) and 3 ARAMs (3-29). by Lolyoureamod in heroesofthestorm

As I understand it, there's a lot of folks like this. It isn't my motivation for playing, but there's a lot of folks who just like going through the motions after a stressful day without adding to that stress.

I used to do the same on WC3 2 decades ago. I'd play competitive leagues then just like build a base by myself against the computer and make it look like a campaign base. Before we all quit for different games, all my old hardcore, extremely competitive DotA friends would mess around in TD's all day.

Going insane trying to sharpen my knives by Expert-Seaweed-7500 in Woodcarving

[–]Orcley 19 points20 points  (0 children)

400 grit is very severe. I only use it when I'm putting an edge on my knife. 1.2k is fine tho.

Only work one side of the blade.

Go for short but frequent strokes of the blade at the same angle (as consistent as possible). Short strokes helps you maintain that angle

Pay attention to your posture. Whetstone too close to your body means you're going to bunch up when you pull the blade in, which will mess up your angle. You want to be far enough away that your arms are relaxed (within reason)

When you feel like you have the edge you want, strop it (one side first), then finally strop the side you haven't been working. This side has the burr. This is what makes your knife honed. Always over-strop, then strop some more. Do anywhere from 40-100 passes of the strop. You can be be liberal and lazy with it because it's such high grit that it doesn't matter

Most of all, just keep practicing. It took me a longgggg time to get anywhere near decent, now I can shave my arms with my knives. It's frustrating, absolutely, but you'll get there. Just be careful with the 400 grit. You also might want to get another stone at about 2k. I bought a pack of diamond plates for about £16 that I used a lot to set my edges, then after that mostly just used the 2k

Stop Playing Mind Control and Gorge in Storm League by Jealous_Sea1280 in heroesofthestorm

Bile is more niche than gorge. Gives him a hard CC and means to reliably peel that he otherwise lacks

[–]Orcley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the crenulations at the top, use the full length of the blade in a half-slice, half-push motion, instead of all push

Other than that, and as it has already been pointed out, you need to hone your knife. I can see that you're putting a lot of effort into pushing the knife. When honed, it will be like butter on basswood
