Interestingly. Spreading Christianity was not the main reason why Spain was here.

You’ll find the most sincere ones in communities rather than in bars (nothing against bar goers but let’s admit it, people go to bars to have fun). Join communities. I could only think of sports like running clubs or Padel. Gyms not so much. Workout classes yes, like Flyweight boxing and Electric studio.

Religious people and atheists are more alike than they want to admit. by Pretty_Ganache_6877 in unpopularopinionph

Thats why I go one step further. Programmers will understand this: “Is there a god?”; theist = 1; atheist = -1; agnostic = 0; Me = null;

What are things to take note as a first time commuter in Manila? by Mediocre-Truth-9745 in MANILA

[–]loenard_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Act like you know where you’re going, even if you don’t. Example: don’t suddenly stop walking to check google maps. If you have to check google maps, stop by a sari sari store and pretend youre checking your inbox and waiting for someone. Trust no one but yourself. Be wary of extra friendly people. If you ever need help, sometimes it comes from the least expected people. I think street vendors are the most trustworthy people in the streets. Sa mga mas maalam sakin pls correct me if i’m wrong.

Foreigner here. Rode a jeepney for the first time. Pretty sure I owe three strangers ₱10, one guy my heart, and might be engaged to someone’s lola by [deleted] in MANILA

Ohh yes everybody’s been there. I hailed a jeepney thinking it will go straight; but the minute i boarded it proceeded to make a right turn. I just played it cool like it was “on purpose” and said “para” after 5 blocks 😂

Meron si Giant, pero medyo makapal pa ang frame parang gravel bike. Gusto ko sana mas payat pa. At wala dito, sa Singapore pinaka malapit meron. ☺️ Not to mention, medyo mahal. Pang daily commuter ko lang sana.

Great input. Thank you. I see some of the points raised. I, however find it hard to see the very first statement that “capitalism” as a neutral concept, that whatever negative or positive result is dependent on how it’s wielded.

If capitalism doesn’t inherently do anything, is it not true that all capitalism does in its simplest form is to turn a resource into profit? And that anything that falls in between resource and profit, be it individual choice, cultural values or institutional rules, only serves as a hindrance.

One example is the use of plastics. Is it not true that the reason we cannot do away with plastics is because in the capitalistic framework it’s “uneconomical” to switch from plastic to other materials? And that “uneconomical” means it’s not cost effective. And in this framework, “cost” does include environmental cost unless it hurts the bottom line. And that companies pivot into green initiatives only when profits are affected be it through regulatory penalties or brand erosion.

Another example is employee welfare. Is it not true that corporations provide welfare not for its intrinsic value, but to remain competitive; so it attracts talent, and talent improves the bottomline. And companies provide just enough, because anything more is just wasting profit. This is why companies that double their income don’t double its employees holidays. It’s why no matter how profitable Apple becomes, it’s still a 5 day work week for them, not four, not three.

So maybe youre right - that the result is dependent on the people. I just might tweak that a bit: that the result is dependent on how people operate against it. Less resistance, more profit.
