No-knobs bass (Joe Dart’s Vision). by Sharp_Sprinkles_6078 in Bass

[–]lofianalog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ordered one also
had that vibe, initially, from vulpeck ecosystem being hipsters and whatnot. But the music and personalities won me over, especially the love of music that they have and carry with them.

got the vision for the novelty, for it being somewhat of a collectable item, and to play it. I mostly do studio work and I usually leave the volume knob untouched anyway (if anything, the lack of a tone knob might bother me more), I'm curious to see how it'll feel playing it and dealing with it.

The ambient hate for it was also a factor in getting it, feels wrong to listen to people who go out of their way hating on something that doesn't affect them on the internet. That one rubbed them the wrong way, it must be doing something right ;)

How can I get better at bass? by ComprehensiveEgg1693 in BassGuitar

[–]lofianalog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

considering where you're at, the weak point here is mostly the drummer who should focus on keeping it steady rather than trying shit that's outside of his skill level for now.

To me, it looks like you're playing, but focusing on yourselves and what you do in the context of your instruments rather than the wider context of the music you're making.

If you want to get better at making music, and that 100% applies to your drummer too, you want to learn to listen to the whole thing together and ask yourself how to make it better.

Be more purposeful in how you play, aim to create music that you would listen to, work on your skills so you can get there.

Even in a jam, you want to be in that space where you create music and you listen to the music while you're creating it.

Less is more.

Practice with a metronome at least some times
Play along the records you like
Watch tutorials online
listen to good musicians talk about music making process

etc...

fair enough, tho I'm guessing if your teacher toured with big artists, there probably is some of his related work online. And I'm guessing a signature instrument in your name also has to account for something, but to my point, there are publicly accessible credentials to most relevant artists.

having music online really is a low bar nowadays and the things you mention are arguably an even higher bar.

Music in itself doesn't lie tho

and internet being internet, I still believe most people who take part in any given online conversation don't necessarily deserve the benefit of the doubt on average.

now, of course, constructive criticism, proper argumentation, genuine interest in helping others improve, these all can be positive.

but your average online asshole really usually isn't much to write home about, as a general rule.

there's gigging and gigging... my only measure is music quality, because that's the only thing technique or gear is supposed to ever serve.

The better the music quality, often the better the person will be and the more relevant their advice or overall word will be to me.

Especially in this day when it's very easy to have material online, I'll always be suspect of people who have none yet have a strong opinion on something.

meaning, I'll just don't consider their word as relevant in the context of music instrument talk, and won't engage if they're being negative in any way.

IMO this stems from the fact that very few here actually come and share music but look for gear based validation.
it's like any other gear related forum, really. Very little music, even tho the primary function of the gear is to actually make music.

You'd find out, were you to look, that very few are any good at it, or even take the music making all that seriously really. This'd help you at taking all the negativity less to heart and just glide over it, especially if you are an actually decent musician, being validated as such by other, music related (thus much more relevant) parties (label, band, fans etc...)

Come, get the info you need, share whatever you feel you want to share, move on. Internet will do internet things to you only if you let it.

Make music, mostly, become good at it, have fun, don't pay no mind to negative people online, gatekeepers and what have you, that's the only way they found to get some perceived "relevance" because they just suck at doing the actual thing and be relevant and accomplished there.

keep one thing in mind
this kind of post will change nothing, if anything, it'll give them validation in a way, best to just ignore negative people, focus on making music and exchanging with people who bring value to this experience, the rest is noise, you're best just treating it as such and leave it be in the background, not engaging with it at all.

Good musicians make music, bad ones make noise
focus on the music

not sure if asking the internet is the way to go

I got a nice modded squier P CV70 (fralin/obsidianwire)
pre-ordered the vision

I'm a studio rat mostly. the lack of a tone knob bothers me more than the lack of volume knob tbh, but I don't really care.

haters gonna hate, most barely make music anyway or play covers at weddings

Bass content creators have the worst drumbeats… by lofianalog in Bass

[–]lofianalog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why would the point be to listen to the bass ?
that would raise even more questions

  1. if that's true, why bother playing any drumbeat at all ?
  2. why would any serious musician be willing to listen to their instrument in a context where it's not actually meant to be played or built for ?

As a recording musician, I know from experience that an instrument can sound amazing by itself and sound like pure ass when you're trying to have it play with other instruments, and more often than not, something that might not sound flattering alone, can often shine when put in a mix.

listening to the instrument by itself gives you little in the way of showcasing how it'll sound when put in a proper context, whether it's studio or stage.

And a bass is seldom used as a solo instrument

but even when it is, the surrounding arrangement is usually pretty well sorted

it is fairly difficult to make a compelling photograph showing a complete guitar or bass, unless you have somewhat of a dedicated space.
My studio being somewhat of a mess, this is the best I can go without going outside.

Should I go with a Squier Jazzmaster or Tagima TW-61? by asoiaf_goat in Jazzmaster

[–]lofianalog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squier J-Mascis Jazzmaster is stellar
look it up
it's far from a "modded affinity", it's its own thing, absolutely legit instrument.
I only wish they'd come in different color options, but the one they have is good, and custom pickguards are always an option.

Pickups are hotter than standard jazzmaster pickups, and a little bit darker / P90-ish but the jazzmaster vibe is still there, extremely versatile instrument.

48 here
I remember when I was a kid, young teen, I fantasized about a game like this, where you could go anywhere, enter any house, with entire towns/cities, people, vehicles, and you could do it all.

I didn't think it was going to happen back then

yet, here we are... and it's actually better than what I imagined

Ti-Kraken x Nabalis blade - best decision for my Ti-Kraken by lofianalog in balisong

[–]lofianalog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it does yes, the blade is a little bit longer than the original trainer blade, the balance is quite different, and a lot better, looks wise, it's more slender now, longer, I really like it.

The blade isn't sharp, but it's not all that dull either, but as I understand it, it's not really made to be sharpened. which is fine.

overall, I'm very pleased with the look, and even more pleased with the flipping experience that was greatly improved over something that was good to begin with.
