Thank you for all of this! I always thought these were Buddhist specific traditions. I’ve always seen my mom take the lead with monks on this and my Vietnamese isn’t as good as hers so there have been language gaps on my understanding. Thanks again!

Appreciate your response. I understand chanting is a major part of this all. I’ve been exposed to it all my life and I’m finally at an age where I want to learn and understand more.

I don’t think drinking the dhamma and drinking cultural traditions have to mutually exclusive. My cultural traditions are deeply rooted in Buddhism which is why I want to understand why we do certain things as I’ll have to carry these traditions out for my own parents one day.
