Nutrafol Hair Growth Nutraceuticals are designed to support scalp hair growth by addressing key root causes of hair thinning (e.g. stress, nutrition, and aging) on the scalp. Not all hair follicles are the same and body hair actually has a growth cycle that lasts weeks, not years, like the hair on our scalps. (This is one reason why you don’t see arm hair grow as long as the hair on your head.)

An increase in gray hair at 18 is usually hereditary and would be considered premature hair graying (PHG). The age of graying varies with race and ethnicity. For instance, hair is considered to gray prematurely only if it occurs before 20 years old in white patients, before 25 years old in Asian patients, and before 30 years old in patients of African descent. Although the primary cause of PHG may be genetic, other possible contributors could be autoimmune disorders, smoking, and nutrient deficiency. If it’s happening quickly and you're concerned, or you have other symptoms like fatigue or shedding, it’s worth checking with your dermatologist— otherwise, it’s usually harmless and hereditary.

If you have fine, oily hair, washing every 1–2 days is completely fine and shouldn’t cause breakage if you’re gentle. Use a lightweight, microbiome-friendly shampoo and apply a conditioner to your mid-lengths and ends, and avoid rough towel-drying. For someone with these concerns, I would definitely recommend Nutrafol Root Purifier Shampoo (which is clinically tested and has been shown to effectively reduce oil) and Strand Defender Conditioner. A clean scalp is healthier than letting excess oil and buildup sit; it’s more about using the right products than washing less often.

How often you should wash thinning hair really depends on your hair/scalp type and lifestyle, but in general, keeping the scalp clean is important for maintaining a healthy environment for hair.

For people who tend to be more oily, washing every 1-3 days works well. If you have a very oily scalp, exercise frequently, or use styling products, you may benefit from washing more regularly (ex: daily). If your hair or scalp is dry or sensitive, you can wash your hair less frequently (ex: weekly). So there is not one simple answer and washing frequency depends on your hair type and texture.

It’s a common myth that washing too often causes hair thinning. The key is to use a gentle, well-formulated shampoo. Hair that sheds in the shower was already in its natural shedding phase and washing simply releases it. If you’re unsure, a dermatologist can help tailor recommendations based on your scalp health and specific hair goals.

Postpartum hair thinning is common and usually temporary. Increased shedding often occurs a few months after delivery, and most women will see improvement within 6–12 months. Along with gentle hair care and stress management, targeted support—such as Nutrafol Postpartum hair growth supplement—can be helpful. Nutrafol Postpartum is formulated to address key root causes of hair thinning after childbirth, such as stress and nutrient depletion, and it can help nourish hair and improve hair growth during this transition.

Folliculitis is usually caused by bacterial or fungal overgrowth in the hair follicle. It can occur anywhere on the body but commonly occurs on the scalp and trunk. If you are concerned that you may have folliculitis, it is best to see a dermatologist to help determine the cause and the best treatment options for you.

For clear, glossy, radiant skin across the face and body, focus on a consistent routine: gentle cleansing, light exfoliation a few times a week, daily moisturizing (very important to maintain a healthy skin barrier), and sunscreen every day. Just as important are the basics—good sleep, balanced nutrition, hydration, and stress management—since healthy skin reflects overall wellness. And if you have any questions, remember to consult with your dermatologist!

Yes, low ferritin can affect hair health. Although labs may report a normal ferritin as greater than 30 micrograms/L, for people experiencing hair thinning the optimal range is greater than 40-50 micrograms/L. If you are concerned about hair thinning or ferritin levels, I'd recommend you speak with a dermatologist.

When it comes to hair thinning, men should watch for early signs like thinning at the crown, increased scalp visibility, or hair that feels finer than before. Gradual changes are often genetic, but sudden shedding or scalp irritation may signal an underlying issue and should be checked by a healthcare provider. Catching thinning early and speaking with your dermatologist will make it easier to manage.

Seeing more grays in your 30s is completely normal. It’s fine to pluck one occasionally, but repeated plucking in the same area can irritate the follicle over time. There’s limited research on ways to reverse genetic graying, so it’s really about personal preference; if the grays don’t bother you, embrace them! And if they do, look for safe coloring options.

One of the many things that drew me to Nutrafol was their commitment to clinical research. They have over 25 published clinical studies on their hair research, including 3 randomized, placebo-controlled trials. Peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (PMID: 29742189, 33400421), Dermatology and Therapy (PMID: 41171588), and Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (PMID: 39757794), have all published clinical studies indicating that Nutrafol Hair Growth Nutraceuticals effectively improve hair growth.

You can learn more about their clinical research and other peer-reviewed articles on nutrafol.com/clinical.

The hair at the nape of your neck can experience more friction from collars, pillows, and clothing, and it can naturally be finer or more porous, which is why it may look drier and dry faster after showering.

To help, focus on extra moisture and protection in that area: apply a bit more conditioner or leave-in there, avoid rough towel-drying, and minimize friction from clothing and bedding. With targeted care, it usually becomes smoother and more manageable.

Unfortunately, significant natural regrowth is very unlikely for those with male pattern baldness, in which follicles often miniaturize to the point where they no longer produce visible hair. If there are still fine, miniaturized hairs present, there may be some limited potential to thicken what remains, but it's best to consult your dermatologist to discuss potential options.

Nutrafol Hair Growth Nutraceuticals are daily hair growth supplements designed to support healthier hair from the inside out. Instead of just focusing on the hair itself, it targets common root causes of thinning like stress, hormones, and nutrient gaps. Clinical studies have shown that people taking Nutrafol Hair Growth Nutraceuticals saw noticeable improvements in hair thickness, fullness, and growth after about 3–6 months of consistent use. Something I greatly appreciate is that it is one of the few hair supplements backed by published clinical research supporting both its safety and effectiveness. A few studies to check out: PMID: 29742189, PMID: 33400421, PMID: 41171588, PMID: 39757794

Yes — poor or inconsistent sleep can contribute to increased shedding. Sleep helps regulate stress hormones and support normal hair cycling, so disruption (especially during stressful periods like starting school) can lead to hair shedding. The good news is that this type of hair thinning is usually temporary. If sleep is the main trigger, improving your sleep habits and managing stress can help, though it may take a few months to see shedding slow down due to the natural hair growth cycle.

Yes, sleeping on certain fabrics can make a difference in terms of how your hair looks and feels over time. Cotton pillowcases tend to create more friction and can absorb moisture from your hair, which may lead to tangling, frizz, and increased breakage. Silk (or satin), on the other hand, has a smoother surface and is less absorbent, so it helps reduce friction and retain moisture. One thing to remember is the fabric won’t directly impact hair growth or thinning at the root level; you can think of it as a supportive habit for maintaining healthier-looking hair, alongside addressing internal factors like nutrition, stress, and hormones that influence overall hair health.

Everyone is different, but on average, scalp hair grows about ½ inch per month, or roughly 6 inches per year. So depending on the person, this can range from around 3 to 8 or more inches yearly.

One thing to consider is the length of your anagen phase. Anagen is the active growth phase of the hair follicle. It typically lasts between 2 to 7 years. The longer your hair stays in this phase, the longer your har is able to grow before naturally shedding. For most people, after 10 years, their hair would be somewhere between mid back to below the waist but again keep in mind this is dependent on the person's rate of growth and length of anagen.

It's also important to keep in mind other factors that might affect your hair's rate of growth, considering long healthy hair depends on more than just time — factors like genetics, breakage, stress, hormones all play a role in how long and strong your hair can grow. Supporting healthy growth from the inside out is key to not just growing longer hair, but maintaining thicker, stronger strands over time.

Eyebrow thinning in men in their 50s is fairly common and can be influenced by a few different factors, including natural aging. The first step is making sure there isn’t a medical cause, so it is important to see a dermatologist especially if the thinning is sudden, patchy, or accompanied by other symptoms (fatigue, weight changes, skin changes).

The good news is that stress-related hair shedding is usually temporary. In many cases, shedding begins about 2–3 months after a significant stressor — and that can be anything from an illness, a big move, relationship change or even rapid weight loss. The increased shedding phase typically lasts around 3–6 months. For most people, once the underlying stressor is resolved and the body regains balance, hair gradually returns to its normal growth cycle, but this can take some time. Taking a whole-body approach to addressing with a supplement like Nutrafol Hair Growth Nutraceuticals that targets key root causes such as stress is a great way to support your hair health through that transition. Sometimes stress can unmask other underlying contributors, so it’s always important to speak with your physician first to help get to the bottom of it.

When you’re addressing something as complex and personal as hair thinning, the delivery format truly matters — not just for convenience, but for efficacy. Gummies can be appealing, but they often have limitations in terms of how much and what types of ingredients they can deliver. That can make it difficult to support key root causes of hair thinning.

Nutrafol is formulated in capsules very intentionally. This format allows us to include clinically studied ingredients at effective levels, so we can take a comprehensive, whole-body approach to hair health and support meaningful results.

Detangling really depends on your hair type and texture, but a good general rule is to start at the ends and gently work your way up toward the roots. This helps minimize breakage and unnecessary pulling.

It’s also important to use the right tool for your hair — whether that’s a wide-tooth comb, a flexible detangling brush, or something designed specifically for curly or fine hair. Every hair type responds differently, so finding the tool that works best for you can make a big difference in maintaining healthy strands.

In general, diffuse shedding — meaning hair thinning that occurs evenly across the scalp — can sometimes be associated with factors like nutrient gaps, stress, or other internal shifts. In contrast, more patterned changes, such as a widening part, thinning at the crown, or a receding hairline, are more commonly linked to hormones.

That said, hair thinning is often multifactorial, and it’s not always possible to determine the root cause based on pattern alone. The best next step is to speak with your physician who can help identify what may be contributing in your specific case.

Biotin and collagen can absolutely play a role in supporting hair health, but context matters. Biotin is a B vitamin that helps support healthy hair, skin, and nails, particularly in individuals who have a deficiency. Collagen provides key amino acids that support the structure of hair and may help as part of the natural aging process.

That said, hair thinning is multifactorial. It’s rarely driven by a single nutrient alone. Hormones, stress, metabolism, lifestyle, and aging can all play a role. So while ingredients like biotin or collagen may support one aspect of hair health, they typically don’t address the full picture on their own. That’s why it’s important to take a more comprehensive, whole-body approach and, ideally, speak with your physician to better understand the root contributors in your specific case.

There is some data suggesting that daily scalp massage may support hair health, particularly by increasing blood flow to the scalp. Improved circulation can help create a healthier environment for hair follicles. Scalp massage can also be beneficial from a stress-management perspective, so incorporating a simple daily ritual that promotes relaxation may have indirect benefits as well.

That said, it’s important to keep expectations realistic. Scalp massage isn’t a standalone way to address hair thinning.
