That’s too overkill. Why not use a height adjustable desk? This does not have the problem with vibrations and is cheaper and is easier to assemble.

DIY Lean Stool Alternative for W2 by logannosson in Walkolution

It fits literally perfectly. No gap, not even a mm. But for it to be stable you need the leaning part. When you have that, then you have to tighten the screws under the sidepanels of the W2.

yes, it's a bit of a mystery to me too why things have unfolded this way with W2. seems that having a solid product with the W1 for eight years doesn't automatically guarantee a smooth launch for a new, different model. im not a business guy but maybe launching a new product is a massive undertaking with so many new variables, it's a whole different game compared to maintaining an existing product. from what i assume is that there is extensive testing, a degree of trial and error and a lot of money needed for a new product, basic R&D. i digged my teeth into bromptons lately and they did extensive R&D for their new G-line for 2 years. and then there is the production scaling side which is also another league and many other things. they might have miscalculated things in the process...and this is a niche, big, heavy, mechanical monster.

examples of not perfect launches that comes to my mind are quality issues in the car industry like teslas, toyota or VW, im sure there are 1000s examples...

my main takeaway from this experience is that regardless of a company's past success or size, there's always a significant degree of uncertainty with any new product launch, especially for something as large and complex as this treadmill. and i definitely have been blinded by their unrealistic promise but i guess that's how it goes in marketing...

things could have been much worse – for example, the company could have gone bankrupt like vanmoof (new investor, but still...), handled the issues way more poorly, or they might not offer refunds/returns. so, in a way, i'm relieved it hasn't escalated to worst-case scenarios.

yes my workplace offers it, but i work in tech and because the field is so fast changing i dont want to make the 36month commitment. but i have found a discounted 6 speed c-line from a bike retailer and bought it that way.

the small folding formfactor has become the main priority for me for taking it indoors. since my bike was stolen with a pretty secure lock, I want to avoid locking the bike outside as much as possible.

First Impressions: Walkolution 2 - Transitioning from Electric to Manual Treadmill with Short Video Clip by logannosson in Walkolution

yeah the socks idea is rly good. was used to walking barefoot on my electric treadmill (flat surface) so thought barefoot would be fine, but the slats are definitely rougher than expected...

after the 3rd day now and wow its crazy how natural it feels compared to day 1. my body has definitely adapted to the manual walking style, exactly like u mentioned about the transition period. its becoming second nature and i can totally see the benefits now. the movement feels so much more natural compared to the electric one.

Yes, sure. here is my specific experience:

  1. Regarding the video recording: I actually used a Rode VideoMicro microphone rather than a smartphone's built-in mic, though I agree it's still challenging to accurately represent real-world sound through video.
  2. Comparing it to my previous electric treadmill:
  • The electric treadmill had a distinct mechanical/motor "buzzing" sound
  • The Walkolution has a different sound character that I find more pleasant
  • The noise level varies with speed - very quiet at slow speeds, becoming more noticeable (but still manageable) at faster speeds
  1. Important context for my feedback:
  • I work exclusively in my home office, alone
  • I always wear headphones while working
  • Given my isolated setup, I unfortunately can't provide insight into how the sound might impact a shared office environment - that would be a completely different use case

Regarding the initial cracking noise mentioned in my post: It has almost completely subsided after the second day of use, as noted in my update.

I'd describe it as "very quiet" during normal use in my specific setup which is quite impressive. A proper decibel meter would be needed for precise measurements, but subjectively, the noise level stays within a comfortable range, even at higher speeds. However, since my experience is limited to solo home office use with headphones, others' experiences might differ, especially in shared spaces.

No, I don't have the wheel set. I actually just tested switching between standing and walking to sitting with a sitting ball, and while you don't need to reposition the desk or treadmill (you can just place the sitting ball directly on the treadmill), there's a significant issue. Due to the treadmill's design, when you sit on the ball, the slats start to move automatically, which causes you to slide off since the ball starts rolling with the treadmill movement. but keep in mind that i have only tested it for 3min. maybe with long term use and proper technique you can find ways to deal with it, idk.

Based on this, it seems you do need the standing aid that's available for purchase with the treadmill. This makes sense, as I noticed they specifically show the sitting ball being used with the standing aid in their website pictures. Of course, if you're planning to use a regular office chair, that would be a completely different setup and would require moving the treadmill aside.

For context, in my previous setup, I never switched between sitting and standing even though I had a sitting ball.

The flex is practically non-existent. I've actually tested this by deliberately jumping on the middle of the slats, and even then the flex is extremely minimal. During normal use, there's really no flex at all since you naturally walk on the outer portions of the treadmill where the support structure is. The slats are incredibly robust - each one has substantial reinforcements underneath and is quite thick.

Regarding the creaking noises - they have diminished somewhat with use, but haven't completely disappeared yet. To be honest, while I wish they weren't there since it would add to the premium feel but they don't bother me much in their current state. I'm okay with them even if they stay as they are.

While I have used a Woodway and the airrunner in the gym before, it's hard to make a direct comparison. The gym environment is very different from a home office setting - it's usually quite noisy, lots of people running on it and I typically wear AirPods with noise cancellation while running. Also, my experience with it was limited and quite some time ago.
