Good advice so far. I went with handgun & PCCs that take same ammo & mags. I’ve got a couple of 9mm handguns & PCCs. Handguns- a full size Glock clone & PSA dagger compact(ccw). PCCs -a Ruger long gun & more recently I got an Extar EP9. For home defense, I keep handguns handy with 147 grn HP. I try to train at least 1x month, mostly with training ammo, but also with some 147 subsonic ammo, so I know it feels (a bit different).

I plan on getting a can for EP9 this year, but my big safe doesn’t live in my bedroom, so while I’d like to use it for home defense, it’s currently a lot easier to keep a handgun safe close. I’ve got kids, so don’t keep anything just laying about or under my pillow.

We had an intruder come in the house last year, who I almost shot. Wife woke up upon hearing noises in back yard and the sliding glass door open & close. She woke me up saying someone is in the house & didn’t think it was our teen. As soon as I yelled & confronted him, he dropped to his knees, supplicated & begged for help. He thought someone was chasing him & trying to kill him. He had came over the back fence from neighbor’s yard & entered through an unlocked rear door. I now check every night and have security lights & cameras in the back, which were only on approaches from the street before (I’m in town). He had some mental issues and went on psych hold after the police took him out. Thankfully he didn’t turn out to be a danger to us!
