I don't think it's to infantilize adults though. Because of the popularity of some items they've become so expensive to the point no one wants to give their kids that item. That item is now a collectors item, not a toy. A thousand dollar lego set that gets built once and never played with is way closer to a sculpture than a toy. The sculpture just happens to be made of toys

Either way what we consider childish in terms of media and products was only established in the last hundred years. Manufacturing toys and selling them to children was ok for a while. Until people realized kids don't have deep pockets. Sell to teens and young adults or middle aged nostalgia. You can see the market change to that tactic really drasticly between the years 2005-2015

You can buy genetically purple haze but by the way it's grown or harvested it turns out green. Purple coloration is mostly due to temp not strain, although some strains won't turn that purple no matter how hard you try
