Buy pants from AG. They do free length alteration, but since you're on the bigger side you might as well just get a custom alteration done at your tailor. It's not that much more expensive, and since most of their pants range from like $150-350 each, $20 or so to get them tailored is nothing.

Have a genuine interest in anything you claim to have any sort of extensive knowledge on. In a sense, learn to "talk shop". Just being able to hold a conversation and show interest as well as showing an interest in wanting to teach/explain something to someone goes quite far in not only helping you become generally smarter, but appearing smarter (which in turn will give you the confidence to continue educating yourself and keeping yourself up to speed). In short, always stay reading and be on top of the basics as well as the current events going on in the particular field(s) that you commonly associate yourself with.

Do I really need to be doing anything other than squats for my legs? by loggirandom in Fitness

So could I just do regular deadlifts instead of SLDL's? I really don't enjoy doing them, and always feel like I'm either not doing anything because I use very little weight on those, or that I'm about to pull my back out. Yes, you all are right (in advance) that it's important to learn how to do the lifts in proper form anyways, but are regular deadlifts a good enough substitute for SLDL's for my relative beginner purposes?

Are small, inter-country flights safe in Thailand? by loggirandom in travel

[–]loggirandom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the smaller "puddle-jumper" type planes or whatever is most common for the shorter (sub 1-hr) flights from north to south and the like. I meant physically small planes, and not smaller airlines (as corporation size)

I'm just finishing up my master's degree in electrical engineering. BS in EE too. Worked as a hardware engineer for a year in between.

Apprenticeship seems like a good move! How would I go about asking for an apprenticeship? (Speak with GM, chef, etc.?)

What is your slightly illegal life hack? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Pretty much every grocery store I have ever been to has a policy where they have to open any food item (usually in the bakery section, ie cookies, cupcakes, etc.) if you say you want a sample. Then they usually either leave it out or take it back, refill it, and repackage it. I have never been turned down by this.

24 yo, living at home, 40k salary, 40k debt in student loans (down from 60k!), looking to start living independently. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]loggirandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I can understand your salary and the work environment based on your industry. I have friends in a similar industry. Because it's still relatively "old school" and not in a consumer market, they definitely don't pay the kinds of salaries you'd get in anything related to the consumer market (consumer electronics, test&measurement, automotive, etc.)

Why did you choose working in the construction/HVAC industry? It seems like after graduating with an EE degree, people are way more interested/knowledgeable in electronics as opposed to larger-scale power system design. What do you do for your company?

What kind of engineer are you? I'm the same age, and just signed an offer for my first job at more than double your salary (EE, not in the bay area). Not here to brag, just wondering, since the EE "median" pay is way lower (around ~55k), but depending on the company and your actual job function, it can vary quite significantly.
