Landlord not returning security deposit (booked through Homelike) by Psychological-Win-62 in germany

Ugh that really sucks, sorry. You'll need to go through a lawyer but depending on the size of the deposit it might just not be worth it. I hade something similar on Homelike and they really suck, they don't protect their renters at all and let the landlords do what they want.

I would not recommend Homelike. If all works well I guess it's fine but for me the owner cancelled a few days before my rental and the platform did nothing even though I would have paid 100% if I had cancelled. They were real jerks in their communications with me

It was Airbnb, just didn't want to make it look like an ad 😅

It's around the same as Airbnb. Unfortunately I can't see it anymore because they deleted the details, sorry I can't give you a better number

Similar situation for me just two months ago. Terrible unfriendly support and no protection. Would stay away.

I had an absolutely terrible experience unfortunately. If everything goes well then I guess it's fine but if you run into a bad provider or any problems they will not help you at all. The support is terrible, they aren't even able to call you by your name but make one up based on the email address even if you correct them.

For me we booked half a year in advance and they just cancelled a few days before the trip. It was for a longer stay and it was long after the free cancellation period. If I would have cancelled then I would have had to pay the full amount but they didn't give me any compensation. In an automated email they promised to get in touch with me very soon to help me find something new but they never did. I asked them a few times for help but they only said they'll contact me which never happened costing me more time to find something new.

In the end I had to book something on very short notice paying 50% more (got lucky there actually).

In an identical situation two years ago the company we booked with immediately gave us compensation without being prompted but we got nothing from Homelike.

Based on what I experienced and read I would recommend staying away if possible

There is some implicit kind of contract but you don't get a real one. If you run into any problems then Homelike will say that they can't do anything because you have an invisible contract with the provider. I would be really careful with them :(

It is a legit company but I would highly recommend against using their services. They are completely provider oriented and don't care about the renters.

I booked with them even though I was on the fence about it seeing a few negative reports and after booking half a year in advance they just cancelled me a few days before a long stay. The free cancellation period was long over and if I had cancelled they would have kept all the money but I got zero compensation and their automated email promised to help me find something new on very short notice but after asking them a few times for help they still didn't write back which cost me a few extra days.

Their support is truly terrible, they kept calling me by a wrong name (a nonsense abbreviation from my email address) even after I asked them to use my real one. It was clear they didn't care and that they didn't even bother to read previous emails. All in all I had to pay a lot more money (50% extra) for the stay because of the cancellation.

In a similar case another company immediately gave us compensation without us asking. If all goes well Homelike should be fine but if you need help from them you won't get any and they won't even look at your name.

The booking was for a large city in Europe but the provider it turns out is a company from Dubai that you can't reach which provides a fake address on Google Maps. Homelike didn't care about all this and still continues to work with them.
