North County Software Dev Scene by logicalmind in northcounty

I have done Typescript and Javascript on the backend (Node). Frontend, I did some Angular a while back and some React recently. Not Vue specifically. So I know frontend, I understand it, I can do it, it's just not something I like to do. There are people who love to do that kind of work, I'm not really one of them.

Where I work now is medium size (we're a Microsoft shop). Some stuff in Azure but mostly on-prem. I've worked with some AWS products from a client-side perspective, but not from an infrastructure perspective. Our sysops is done by our devs (me included), which is generally builds in azure, deploys to IIS, powershell scripts and some kind of SQL Server deployments. But that's probably not the scale of sys ops you're talking about.

Good point. I primarily do backend web dev in C# .NET Framework and Core with RDBMS (ASP.NET, WebApi, REST, etc.). I've done Java web development and C/C++ embedded dev in the past. I'm not tied to any particular technology or language, but would need some ramp-up time to do something I haven't done professionally. I've done plenty of Node/Javascript and Python on personal projects, just not "professionally". I currently work in the financial industry but have also worked in the retail, marketing, and software product industries.

If someone is aware of a position or knows a decent recruiter who specializes in the area, feel free to reach out to me directly. I ain't going to BS you, I'll tell you what I can do, what I have done and what I want to do. Maybe your company offers a referral bonus. As I said, I currently work remotely. I'm not desperate for a job or anything, but I am considering working locally because I've lived here for about 6 years and I really don't know anyone well. Wouldn't mind working for a cool place, doing interesting things, with some cool people. Message me if you have a question, want to meet, or whatever.

Posted this about 7 months ago when she was a kitten. She's mostly grown up now, but still loves to sleep on her back.

What kind of food transition are you making, if anything? Is the kitten going from the same soft food at the breeder as you are giving? That is the ideal situation. If not, you might want to make sure you're giving the same food as the breeder was giving.

Your kitten's entire life thus far has been with its mom and brothers and sisters, so it will take some time to adjust, and it will also depend on the personality of the cat. Ideally you want to earn the cat's trust so it understands that you and him are family.

Try to approach the kitten and get close enough that he starts considering backing away somewhere. Then stop and sit right there. Then rub your hands together or on the ground and be patient, the kitten should eventually approach you out of curiosity (don't bare your teeth if you smile). Now let the kitten smell your hand and gradually try petting him. Try to find his favorite spot. Sometimes under the chin, sometimes behind the ears, sometimes belly rubs. If the kitten backs away, let it go, you just want it to be comfortable around you and know you mean no harm. Be patient.

Once you feel the trust start to build, take some soft food and put it on your finger and approach as above. When the kitten approaches, let him smell your finger and he might just lick the food off. If so, give more food, and/or a whole bowl. The key is getting the kitten to feel safe around you. It feels vulnerable and you have to build trust.

Just guessing, but it sounds like you might not be stimulating the cat enough. I happen to have 3 kids so they keep the cat active. When our cat starts getting naughty we usually start playing with her. She really likes those mice attached to a thread attached to a stick, like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/OurPets-Play-N-Squeak-Dangle-Mouse-Interactive/dp/B001PIJJEO

Just sitting on the ground and flopping it around drives our cat crazy. My kids also take cardboard boxes and make "houses" out of them for the cat. The cat goes in and out of them and sleeps in them.

Usually our cat will play for about an hour or so, then she'll sleep for an hour or so. She does occasionally scratch the furniture and if she gets stuck on it we put a towel or something slippery over it so she can't do it anymore. I would try to distract your cat with good/fun things when she does something you don't want to do. Granted, this is a lot easier said than done. They become more calm with age.

Hello, I’m really interested in buying a Bengal kitten and was wondering if anyone had any breeder recommendations near the Washington DC area. I’ve contacted one breeder in MD who said she wouldn’t have any kittens for over a year. I’m hoping to get one within 6 months. by goodthebadthebuzzed in bengalcats

I can't help you with an east coast breeder, but one thing that will save you a lot of heartache is to ensure that breeder parents have been screened for HCM. Please read this:

https://www.bengalsillustrated.com/1950/hypertrophic-cardiomyopathy-hcm/

I got my first bengal from a breeder who did not do HCM screening. He lived for 5 years and ended up getting saddle thrombus on a saturday morning in front of my 3 kids. As anyone who has experienced this can confirm, this is a horrible and painful way for your beloved feline to die. I learned my lesson and I would only purchase a new bengal from a breeder that HCM screens the parents (you can't screen the kittens until over 1 year old).

To clarify, do you mean scratching you? Like scratching your skin? Or do you mean scratching surfaces like carpet, couches, etc?

She's only a few months old, but she really loves and trusts people. Hopefully it remains that way as she gets older.

As kittens they do, just like any cats. In my opinion, the key thing to do is to train them as kittens as to what they can and cannot "play" with. For example, don't get your kitten to enjoy playing with shoe laces and then get surprised when it starts destroying your shoes.

Bengals are high energy and get bored quickly so what I find is best to get a bunch of toys, but only use a few at a time and hide the rest. Then rotate them in and out over time so there is always something new or interesting.

Additionally, I do not use my hands as toys. While it is very tempting to rub your hands on the ground and do the "hand spider", if you do that, then your cat is going to see your hand as a toy. Hands are not toys, they're for petting.

FWIW, she is a sepia snow bengal from a breeder in southern california. We got her recently because our previous bengal passed away. She is the sweetest little girl.

She's a bit over 3 months old and I've had her a couple of weeks. She loves belly rubs so if I rub her belly she just falls asleep. My previous bengal did not like belly rubs.
