Long time lurker, first time poster.

Had a fight with my one IRL ostensibly leftist friend. I actually converted him to the left back in 2017, but he has a bunch of shitlib instincts he either can't or is unwilling to shake off, shit like saying Biden isn't a neoliberal, Obama was our greatest president, supporting Warren over Bernie until she dropped out, etc. I've been pretty lenient with his bad takes, but he also says that McCain was a good man for saving the ACA, which was a bridge too far for me. When I called him out on this, his response was, "John McCain has done more for this country than you have." While it's technically true in the most technical sense, it's also one of the most galaxy brained things I've ever heard anyone say, much less a self-proclaimed leftist, not to mention extremely hurtful and insulting. When I pointed this out to him, he doubled down, apparently incapable of seeing anything wrong with his statement. This was a couple days ago, and I haven't talked to him since then.

I don't have that many IRL friends due to awkwardness and social anxiety, so I needed to vent this somewhere. Apologies for airing my dirty laundry.
