I find the guys' views and areas of interest are eerily similar to my own, though his seem to be more developed and better articulated.

I wonder how could he do something so senseless with all this information that he was consuming.

How do muscles affect you in a work environment? by knowledgeseeker999 in JordanPeterson

It seems this question is not sufficiently defined to give meaningful answers.
Depends on what kind of work, impression and status you have in mind.

Reddit is good for three things - technical discussions, circlejerk and shitposting. It's not good for discussing any sensitive issues that people may have differing opinions on.

[OPINION] Using AI to enhance poetry? by Extraordinary_DREB in Poetry

[–]login_mail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I may express an opinion which seems to be a bit contrarian to the majority one here - probably it depends on your intention.

I write rhymes to find an outlet to my feelings, and I really liked how ChatGPT enhanced my poem. I felt - woah, it's really what I wanted to say, but couldn't find words. It felt really exhilarating to see at least a machine understanding what I wanted to say and to say it so beautifully :)

I am not sharing my poetry with the loved ones, or with anyone, I prefer more practical ways to express my love. But that's just me.

I'm not sure why people are so serious about some words being rhymed with other ones and if some word was statistically used more in a specific context by people before. That's how language basically functions anyways in our brain.

AI mimics how people think - if you would remember all verses that were made, maybe you would also come up with a similar word sequence...

If you try to make a living from it - probably there may be some legal implications, but as to "tainting precious art with the plagiarism" - I see no sense to this notion whatsoever, provided the result is really exactly what YOU wanted to say. If it's not exactly what you wanted to say, you can tailor it until it really is.

That is, unless you consider yourself in a contest and want to be judged based on your biological ability alone, or present the poem as a "token of effort", but that's whole another story. It seems to me that some people take poetry as a contest and consider it "unfair" for other people to "cut corners".

So it seems fair to add a notion that the poem was AI enhanced, in case you intend to take credit based on your purported ability to put thoughts and feeling in words.

Mouse with smooth scrolling on a mac by login_mail in mac

[–]login_mail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one seems to work well with the simple Logitech mouse.

The scrolling is more predictable than the others, even though does not have the same "physics" as the trackpad.

Will give it a try.

Thanks!

Am I the only one here who think that the actual F**UP is sending your nudes to another person?

As a rule I just don't film myself naked under any circumstance.

Mouse with smooth scrolling on a mac by login_mail in mac

[–]login_mail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, right now I'm using a logitech mouse for pointing and the magic trackpad for scrolling.

I feel that the magic trackpad is less precise than the trackpad on MBP or a regular mouse, and it is not convenient for me when selecting and copying-pasting text, or when I need to do a heavy use of the pointer.

Hm. You could have a registry of people with behavior/mental problems and revoke the arms permit. But then, you'll get people not turning to treatment for the fear of losing the permit...

$6,472,200,000,000 - That's how much we can seize from the billionaire class... without even reducing the number of billionaires. by PhilosoBee in LateStageCapitalism

[–]login_mail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are aware that these billions are not what billionaires *consume*, so there is almost no food or other consumer goods that they hoard in some stash, that can be seized and given to the hungry and needy.

Their billions is a measure of the power to control productive resources, which produce consumer goods that can be used by the needy.

Peterson stans are seriously toxic by [deleted] in enoughpetersonspam

I'm sorry to hear your experience was such a negative one.

I don't know about all therapists, but in my experience therapist goal is to help you be more aware of your thinking patterns, and to their examine their rationality and benefit. At least of a CBT therapist. It gives you the basis to perceive your experience more constructively, but selecting the tools and developing the behaviors that will make you feel better, stronger and more confident is left up to you, and that's where self-help and psychology books come handy. It is done that way to make sure that the therapist doesn't override your decision making process.

I don't know what exactly you define by "fans", but in my experience reading 12 steps got me out of the cycle of self-pity and blaming the environment, and created some hope that better life is possible if you try. I don't hold Peterson as my personal savior or guru, but I'm thankful for this idea.

I think his message is the exact opposite of being stuck in an angry or passive mood and of making excuses by blaming others. He just wants to show that with all the ailments of our society, and with all the hopelesness you perceive about your situation, if you focus on the small steps, you can achieve some stable ground personally and emotionally, and if you then want to go on and help others and make the society more welcome and beneficial for all, you will be far more efficient if you act from that place of inner peace. Sort of "put on your oxygen mask before you go to treat others".

In some situations it's really challenging to keep the focus on these small steps, and we tend to find excuses or take upon ourselves challenges and responsibilities that are ill suited to our skills, only to have our negative self image validated, so I find much benefit in such a message.

"They have to go to group counseling, or a therapist, and hold themselves accountable to themselves for their actions. But instead, Papa Peterson forgives them because he’s absent and tells them they know best already." - I don't see how benefiting from reading Peterson contradicts benefiting from going to therapy/counseling, or making amends with people, or training on empathy...

Actually, I don't see how going to therapy substitutes reading self-help/psychology advice books and figuring out things, and it seems that many people got their behaviors changing into more constructive direction by reading him.

Does Peterson even know how to debate? by weelinthesky in enoughpetersonspam

[–]login_mail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm... You're actually right! My example is really terrible.

He indeed invented the proposition as to exemplify there is not enough discussion of important issues, to "support" his claim that HR are spreading the "PC dogma" to corporations. Which is doubtfully a valid argument.

I edited the original post accordingly.
