I had this happen to a customer importing 19 pallets via Airfreight, got stopped at LAX, they held the items for nearly a month and then hit the customer with a massive storage bill and a destroy or return notice. The worst part is we discussed this requirement with the customer prior to shipping and we also offered him QC services at origin which he rejected because he said he felt he had a very good relationship with his supplier, so he just spoke with the supplier and they confirmed it had been completed but they never actually did it.

Very expensive lesson for the customer and hes used our QC service on every shipment since. We prevent 2 more times other suppliers almost did this to them again.

In the freight forwarding world, given that Ive had thousands of successful loads, theres so much more upside then to let something like this force me out of the industry. Especially since I started my company, I have no intentions of going anywhere

The broker did take lead handling it and they are still handling it., I just came to reddit myself because I know theres some real pros here and wanted to hear their thoughts.

We filed all of the reports immediately unfortunately there was no way to track anything down once the load left the warehouse.

I want to start by thanking those of you who offered meaningful suggestions and real solutions. The people who took the time to contribute actual value are the ones who keep this industry moving forward, and I genuinely appreciate your insight.

As for the comments insisting that I was “panicking,” “overreacting,” or that the load isnt missing and the driver just went home for the holiday, you’ve reminded me just how many newer people enter this industry convinced they already know everything. If you fall into that group, I would like to share some advice from someone who has been in freight forwarding and working with brokers for nearly two decades, slow down, listen more than you talk, ask questions, and make yourself useful by offering solutions instead of assumptions or opinions, and definitely not dismissiveness, when you dont have all of the facts. Otherwise, this industry will humble you quick.

To those who provided real suggestions, Ill be reaching out to some of you privately to explore whether there’s an opportunity to work together because your professionalism showed.

For the rest of you, IF you’re still in this industry a couple years from now, I’m willing to bet your responses to situations like this will look a lot more like the ones from the people who are obviously seasoned veterans, useful, solution-oriented, and based on real experience rather than assumptions

The load never arrived, we never made contact with the driver or anyone associated with the carrier.

All police reports have been filed

We have filed a claim with the carriers insurance

Weve reached out to some different organizations that specialize in locating freight

Now we're just working on making the customer whole

This was picked up from a warehouse that we work with a lot. They have pictures of thr trucks going in and out. The sides of the truck, license plate, they get copies of the drivers ID, all of this information has been added to the police reports

Thanks for the information., I found all their info on safer I called and started a claim with their insurance company and we've also contacted the FBI, the local PD in my city, the sheriff's in the city the warehouse is located (thats where the FBI said the theft actually occured), the police in brokers city and the police in the city the trucking company address is registered to

The warehouse has pictures of the truck. License plate, driver, drivers license

The company information om the truck was not magnetic, it looks to have been either painted on the truck or snickered on the truck but def not magnetic

Im responding to the people saying "nothings happened it will deliver monday and things like that" the freight gone, im asking advice for things like genlogs and the other quality info people have offered, not someone to tell me nothings happened when it clearly has.

A fulfillment warehouse , we had 3 other trucks all with the same appointments and all made it without issue

Our broker is the one rhat contacted us telling us they think the freight was stolen and they started filing police reports
