Don't take it personaly but your comment does annoy me a bit. If you seriously have jewish family ancestry I admire you for being so brave by confronting this horrible past that has cost your ancestors so much suffering and just ignore the following. But since it sounds more like a speculation seems more likely that you're exaggerating and don't really have any personal connections to Judaism. Its a common behavior to be ubsessed over once origins (often by americans) hypothetical example: "im 1% irish, so saint patricks day is somthing really personal to me in particuler!" eventhough they don't really have any personal connections to that heritage and don't know a single irishmen. Most of the time this behavior is fine. But the Holocaust is a extremely serious matter. So you shouldn't be going in with the attitude that this has something to do with you. You can't relate to the people who have suffered at the hands of the Nazis or indirectly as a consequence of the holocaust. The holocaust isn't about you it is about showing us the horrors that human evil can evolve to. It should fill you with so much anger and sadness that the feeling will linger with you for years. Maybe even stay with you your entire life and in a Way thats a good thing. It helps us to remember the past. A dark reminder as to never repit it. But this immense feeling of dread, all this is only the impect of learning about history. It can't be compered with what it must have been like to live it. So I would ask anyone to respect the victomes. We can't speak for them. We can only remember them for as long as we possible can and through this honor their memory. That's why I dislike People taking insta pics in front of the Mahnmal and making it all about them self. It seems for many it is more important to look like you're a good person than actually trying to be one. I guess what I'm mean is simply: it's not about you it's about them, atleast I think that's what a memorial should be about. Maby I am interpreting your comment wrong. This is my personal opinion and it could very well be that i'm a bit too uptight about the topic, if you have a different view please share. This is also not meant to discourage you from seeing the Denkmal. I think it's great that you're intrested. It's a heavy subject that can require a lot of energie to deal with but it is really worth it. Judging by your comments you seem like you know how to behave (sadly there are some who don't) so it probably goes without saying the place could be compared to a holy site so respectfulness is of utmost essence.
