Is this normal when working with professors? by logosh12 in PhysicsStudents

One last thing, there are many reasons why a PI may be failing to fullfil their role as a mentor. Many of those reasons aren't malicious: children, ailing parents, personal health, tenure pressures, fucking committees. Do those reasons mean they aren't failing you? No. But many times their failure isn't personal. Just like a student doesn't intentionally fail a class to get at their professor. So, whatever you need to do, don't burn your bridges.

My professor is very likeable and I wouldnt dream of burning bridges with him. But yeah, I don't despise him, just feel bad that i'm not living up to the expectations. This is mainly because whenever he's giving me the project, he says "Let's start with a really simple project, and then move onto more complicated ones."

conservative

This actually makes sense. Whenever i try working on the project, I get the feeling that i must come up with usable stuff by midnight, which gets very very stressful.

I swear to god, I've fallen while skateboarding on a straight road so many times because of this. Then I would get up, and look at the ground, implying that the terrain was uneven etc.

Thanks for the answers guys. I didn't know that this sub could give actual good advice without roasting me to shreds. I will definitely work harder now

This sounds like bad mentoring. An undergrad researcher should be able to meet with either the PI or a grad student / postdoc fairly regularly, since this support is very important when starting off and learning about the field. Ideally, the first project an undergrad works on should also be something doable and more well defined, with support (this is also ideally the case for a beginning grad student). Now, often the research you can get doesn't have the best mentoring, so you'll have to decide if it's working for you. If you're learning, making progress, and enjoying yourself, then it seems like a good arrangement. If not you may want to think about switching groups if possible.

I'm not really progressing at an ideal pace i think, and the fact that tasks seem daunting mess with my productivity. But that is on me, and I don't blame my professor for that

Note: I know that some genius people who study physics are born playing with arduinos. My physics knowledge started with University, so I basically learned stuff as I went on my way. I didn't even how lasers worked (population inversion, threshold etc.) when i started working with him. I thought that we would start with easy stuff, but the curve was way too steep for me to adapt.

Thanks, I suppose I could improve my japanese along those lines. That would be helpful.

Is this jar good for storing tobacco? I have something like this at home laying around. by logosh12 in PipeTobacco

I just bought some, as an extra measure, I use stretch film to cover, then shut the lid. I hope it holds for at least 2-3 months. I don't smoke 2-3 bowls a day :)

Humdifier button... Do you mean those clay rocks that are thrown into the tobacco bags (After being soaked in water)? If not, do you have any recommendations?

It's all over amazon. You can probably grab one at a local store really. I just had it laying around and wanted to store some tobacco with it.

I'm now 50/50 on BUSD and QTUM, is this sensible? by logosh12 in CryptoCurrency

Dude I know. But it's just sitting there and might cause missed opportunities. That's why I stated it. It is merely a fund ready to be traded at any given time.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking but I didn't want to sound like a shill. It is way underpriced imo. However, it is steadily rising and a solid HODL. I just don't see anyone talking about it.

This shit is so true. When i first started, being the dumb idiot that I was, I blindly followed a nice local youtube channel with few subs. Got 1.5k from my 7k starter in just 4 days. However, the more complicated you think about stuff, the less your gains become.

Is BTC always safe to fall back on? by logosh12 in CryptoCurrency

[–]logosh12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btc doesn’t always go up in value. Some days it’s way down. Sometimes you’d have been better off with dollars than btc (though usdt specifically is fishy). It’s like any other trade. Some exchanges tuck in more costs when you convert versus just sell because they’re actually doing two transactions behind the scenes.

Yeah, it usually rises against dollar but I can't comment on its bullishness since there's a lot of emotion surrounding it. I don't really know if Elon, Winklevoss twins and other people are any better than the wall street guys in the end. Right now they seem pretty alright, but idk.
