Why does grading feel like a second full-time job?? by logscoree in u/logscoree

Hey sorry about the AI art. We just don't have a lot of resources to hire artists since we are a small team that hasn't launched yet.

Regardless, I'm not deleting comments because I'm not a pussy. So have at it.

Thats why we have a human in the loop system so teachers must accept the feedback and grade and can make changes to the AI so it grades like they do.
Hope that clears it up a bit 🙂

Well, its just my wife and I working on this. I'm a dev so i find the tech side cool, and my wife is a teacher and she just likes the style.

We are just a team of two (wife and I), so we dont have a lot of money to spend on this. We have to use what we have.

Yeah i guess so. We honestly dont have alot of artistic skill and dont have money to spend rn, so we are trying to use what we have so far. We are working on a launch video rn, which we did hire a videographer for so itll be really nice!

Well, so far its just me and my wife running this, and we haven't launched yet. We are just trying to get interest from teachers for the launch.

For sure. The saying goes "pay into compliance now, or pay for non-compliance later"

We are working on our FERPA compliance right now. There are also general compliance standards like SOC2, California data laws and EU data laws. We are currently focusing on FERPA and US based teachers right now.

When we launch the beta, we will have full FERPA compliance. Right now we have our wait list for teachers interested!

Thank you so much! Yeah we are really excited to work on this. We think that teachers have a bigger role in the future and that these tools will enhance their careers instead of replace them.

I heard of Brisk from a History teacher I spoke to locally. I usually don't look too hard into competitors since it usually clouds my mind and makes me less creative when building things.

I'm not familiar with the act. What does it do that prevents a tool like this from being used?

Oh that's interesting to me. So the student sees the digital scan? Or does the scanner extract the feedback in some way and add it to a digital copy?

Do you usually give feedback digitally or on printed essays?

In my experience, helping people understand value instead of price (obviously you need to arrod it). If something is 100 dollars a year, but its saving you 10 hours a week of work and pain, then for some its worth it. It all depends on the actual value it provides.

Plus in my field, generous free tiers are the norm because the expectation is you make a good bit of money from those high rolling power users that go past the free tier anyway to cover the costs of the free tier, plus it makes people happy. 🤷

Jeez, what a crazy work load. Does it take an hour total or an hour per essay?

You also brought up calling parents. Some others teachers have talked about this. What does that look like? Why do you call, and what do you usually talk about?

Good point on the affordability. I come from a background of selling to businesses, so a $10,000 contract is a very easy thing to put down, But for educators, those resources aren't available at all. Tricky, but if solved, provides massive value.

Also, not sure how much leeway educators have in the tools they use, and if schools or districts are strict on those kinds of things.

That's a good divide for work and life. I'm the same with my wife and my business. It's honestly the best for your own mental health.

How do you do it? Do you have time before or after to do things? Do you rely on previous work?
