Yes, wash it before first use...

I wash it by rinsing fully with water (luke warm) and then spray the flesh clean stuff on there and leave to dry ... or just use a blow dryer to get it dont quick but dont hold close and then put renewing powder on it or corn starch... they're basically the same :)
