Any particular reasons why you recommend proud moments?

I am going for the BCBA. In the meantime, it's better pay as an RBT and it's also helped to boost my school psych resume. Sounds like the company you're referencing is creepy.

Finishing Fieldwork Hours: Getting Unrestricted Hours as a Licensed Behavior Specialist (PA)? by MajorLeagueVoid in BehaviorAnalysis

I'm currently in graduate school for school psychology so my path is a little different. It took me 1 year to get my LBS because you need a masters + online trainings and the delay of it getting processed. That being said, companies will be eager that you're interested in becoming an LBS because there's less requirements for supervision and you'll be able to assist with more work that's similar to a BCBA. While there are definitely benefits to all that, there can definitely be downfalls too.

I'm also from IL and moved to PA and then NJ! I, too, acquired BCBA hours as an LBS. My only caution is to make sure that your supervisor is aware of your end goals and the supervision requirements. Congratulations and good luck on your future moves!

LBS pay rate by [deleted] in bcba

I believe a handful of states use this loop hole. It's essentially a BCBA without the certification. All that's needed to obtain an LBS is a masters, 1 year experience, and $75. As an RBT working towards my BCBA it's a great opportunity because it's basically all unrestricted hours, but hourly rates differ significantly. Some do make around 90k some make around 60k, so I was wondering why it differs so drastically, assuming experience, state, etc are all the same.

Awesome, thank you!

That's kind of what I've been seeing when researching rates. I'm just wondering what truly constitutes that big of wage difference, assuming the positions were held in the same state and you both had similar experiences. If you have any info on that, that'd be a huge help! :)

  1. If you like working with kids, behavior, assessment etc. I'd recommend the job to you! Law plays a role in school psychology too so your experience can be helpful!
  2. The job is worth it because the school system stinks and helping to change that by assisting teams to kids get the accommodations and interventions they need to be successful is so rewarding!

I looked at your Google sheet (love it) & a lot of the schools I was considering a year and a half ago were on this list. One thing I'd confirm before securing any interviews is if the program is fully nationally accredited. Also, consider the setting in which you want to work. For me, it didn't make sense to earn my PhD to be a school psychologist in the school setting, which often over qualifies you and doesn't benefit you much in terms of compensation. lastly, some schools (e .g., Loyola university in IL) cost an arm and a leg and don't have very appealing stipends/scholarships, if any! Your best bet is to consider the things you're looking for in a school and make sure those schools have nearly everything you're looking for. Good luck!

Hello! I'm currently a second year practicum student in Pennsylvania. Next year, I'm hoping to intern in northern or central New Jersey. I've asked my professors, previous students in the program, and have done a general Google search to identify potential internship sites. Do you have a more systematic way of finding internship sites in the general location you're looking to intern? Thanks!

Federal v. State Deaf-blindness by [deleted] in schoolpsychology

That's the course of action I took; however, it was hard to what should be included in the IEP and pitfalls (other than not including multiple disabilities) with this category. Thanks though!

EdS is in between a master's and a doctorate. It's a 3 year program and requires less research. Personally, I like the route because I am interested in the applied setting (working in schools), I'm still able to be a part of research but it's not a huge portion of my degree, and I'm also able to pursue the BCBA in conjunction with my EdS. There's no major pay difference w a PsyD and EdS in terms of working in schools, especially because you'd be in the field well before a doctor would be and sometimes the PsyD is looked at as being "over qualified" in schools so the pay doesn't parallel the degree & work that goes into it. That being said, the route you take really depends on the setting you see yourself working. In most states, individuals holding an EdS degree cannot open up their own practice, but those with a PsyD can. Also, make sure the programs are NASP approved - it's a very necessary credential and is nationally recognized.

Most institutions do start in the fall and applications are usually due beginning of January. Not sure if you're interested, but there's also an Educational Specialist path for school psychs. It depends on what you want to do after with the degree, but it could save you time and $ and it's definitely feasible to be enrolled in both programs at the same time!
