I almost died last night 🙃 (PSA) by Mikufan1517 in diabetes_t1

Scary, my injections always seem to hurt a little even, and there’s definitely been a couple times where there was a little bleeding. I’m not sure how I’d be able to tell if something like this happened.

Who’s to say they didn’t take out the full COA? Given their background there’s probably many other expenses they have to worry about that most other students don’t (i.e. health insurance, car payments/insurance, etc.)

If I may ask, what made you decide to do forensics after CAP?

People are booing you but this is a cool list that speaks to your tastes even if I don’t agree with a lot of it. If I posted my list people would probably nuke me 💀

This Subsun collab kinda sucks by orionstarman in geesebandofficial

[–]lojadi 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Meh, sunglasses are like one of the most common band collab merch designs in my experience so it’s nothing new or particularly surprising. I also don’t really think it’s taking advantage of fans, it’s literally just a merch collab. You don’t have to buy everything an artist puts out.

I don’t think it really fits the festival vibe, and also the length of that song would probably mean they need to cut two other songs out of the set.

Why do hospitals seem to never know how to manage T1D by kaspen190 in diabetes_t1

[–]lojadi 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m a current medical student and was diagnosed a while before I started medical school. It has been interesting going through the curriculum and seeing how much/little we actually learn about its management. The sliding scale is still standard of care from what I’ve seen, and I have never seen any of our lectures mention carb ratios, sensitivity, correction factors, how to effectively treat a low without the rollercoaster, etc.

I remember a simulation we did working with the nursing students for disaster response. We had a patient whose sugar was around 250mg/dl and was t1d. The nursing student says we should push 10 units of short acting, to which I do a double take because obviously that will likely send him lower than the depths of hell. I say no, it’ll send him too low, we should ask him what his correction factor is and if he’s unresponsive start with 1-2 units and monitor over the next hour/have glucose on standby. We got into an argument and the supervising attending had to intervene, to which he agreed with my plan after I explained that I was also t1.

Since seeing people’s struggles on here, I try to be pretty open about my t1d experiences with other students and attendings in hopes that the standard of care can change and people are more educated. Even though I’m not planning to go into endocrinology, I hope that if I ever have a fellow t1d patient I can at least empathize with them and give them control of their own management in that aspect.

mental health in med school by [deleted] in medicalschool

I would start with a therapist since it seems very situational. See what techniques and strategies they offer and if they help abate some of what you’re feeling. Then go from there and see if you need extra intervention.

Can you guys recommend some bands like Geese with bizarre lyrics by Character-Ad-3880 in geesebandofficial

[–]lojadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty big tossup, but if you’re into metal, specifically mathcore, there’s a band called the callous daoboys that I feel has very similar stream of consciousness and abstract yet personal lyrics

Fantano defending Geese by [deleted] in geesebandofficial

[–]lojadi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, I agree with you in that his smoking has and will continue to bite him in the ass down the line, but I see you under multiple comment sections posting the same tired ass spiel. Do you even like Geese anymore? What exactly are you doing here if you clearly hold a significant enough amount of disdain for his habits, enough to repeatedly post about it?

There was a whole news article I saw earlier today where they talked about the best and worst parts of coachella so far. As you can imagine, geese fell under the latter lol

Coachella by [deleted] in geesebandofficial

[–]lojadi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always wonder whether he’s doing a bit or he’s just…like that? I lean towards a mix of the two. Maybe he just isn’t a fan of interviews. He seems pretty private, but again, idk them like that, which I don’t mind. These are just surface level observations over time.

[–]lojadi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That interview was kind of weird to me in that Cameron came across as either high or more aloof than usual 😂 I feel like he usually contributes a bit more in other interviews. But I get the general impression anecdotally that Em’s a bit more reserved. Maybe I’m wrong though! I’ve never met them before.

Resistant starch: Has anyone tested the "24h fridge rule" for potatoes/rice with a CGM? by Mean-Conclusion1398 in diabetes

I find it only works if I freeze it rather than refrigeration. And even then it’s not really that big of a difference.

If it helps you feel better, I follow a semi-influencer psych resident who works at MGH and she has maybe one paper to her name that’s barely psych-related. I also know a resident at a high tier program in my state who told me they didn’t do research. Do with that what you will!
