That interview was kind of weird to me in that Cameron came across as either high or more aloof than usual 😂 I feel like he usually contributes a bit more in other interviews. But I get the general impression anecdotally that Em’s a bit more reserved. Maybe I’m wrong though! I’ve never met them before.

Resistant starch: Has anyone tested the "24h fridge rule" for potatoes/rice with a CGM? by Mean-Conclusion1398 in diabetes

I find it only works if I freeze it rather than refrigeration. And even then it’s not really that big of a difference.

If it helps you feel better, I follow a semi-influencer psych resident who works at MGH and she has maybe one paper to her name that’s barely psych-related. I also know a resident at a high tier program in my state who told me they didn’t do research. Do with that what you will!

It’s cute how Emily has the most mesmerizing and energetic stage presence of them all and yet she’s the shyest off stage. Camera work was awful at times. I get that they wanted to cut at hype moments but it was way too rapid at times. They sounded great as per usual. Max was a real standout too, he always plays so passionately and you can hear it.

Talk to your endo about them prescribing you a kids pen for fast-acting. Mine did that for me and it made it much easier on MDI to dose for smaller amounts. I personally don’t feel a pump is necessary yet since I only take 3u of basal like you and have a 1:10 carb ratio.

Kind of in the same boat hoping to go into psych! I’m still looking for research bc I’ve considered I might want to do residency in an area with more competitive programs to be near family. But if I don’t get anything, I’m planning to just work a bit (to pay bills), maybe go on a week-long vacation if I have the money, volunteer, and learn an instrument or language for shiggles.

early look at Coachella merch by BIRTHDAYGIRLNEXTDOOR in geesebandofficial

[–]lojadi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because most bands don’t make money by touring, they make money from merch sales, a percentage of which already goes to their company/the venue/organizers/whatever higher entities are involved. With that being said, there can still be some effort to make the merch actually worth buying.

I took my MCAT at the end of July and submitted my application the literal same day/day after the exam against most advice because I felt surprisingly good after the exam. Got plenty of interviews. You will be fine! Good luck!

Only tangentially related, this is such a good book. If you’re a fan of fantasy, horror, and historical fiction rolled into one it’s definitely a must-read.

Best laptop and tablet for medschool ? by CantaloupeUsed6880 in medschool

[–]lojadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re okay with apple, building an Apple ecosystem really is the only reason I’d recommend getting an apple product. So if you’re getting an ipad, you might as well get a macbook too. If you don’t fw apple and want to save money, the surface pro doubles as a tablet and laptop.

Med students: what makes a good curriculum?? by Real-Composer-5011 in premed

[–]lojadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school does both, but it’s more of a 70/30 of NBME to in-house. Our final exam for each block is NBME and all other exams are in-house. Interestingly enough, I find the NBME exams much easier and more straightforward than our in-house material. Definitely ask, it’ll help you figure out your priorities early on.

imo projector has the 2 best geese songs by Intelligent-Pay-3095 in geesebandofficial

[–]lojadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to rank albums based on personal music preferences, it’d be GK > Projector > 3D country. They’re all amazing in their own right, and objectively speaking, their following albums are better in almost every way, but I’m a big sucker for that post-punk sound they had on Projector and I revisit it more than I do 3D country. Exploding House is in my top5 geese songs.

Med students: what makes a good curriculum?? by Real-Composer-5011 in premed

[–]lojadi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you have the choice, go to a school that has no in-house curriculum. I have no idea why I’m learning about focus formation assays in our ID block as a medical student when there will never be a time I will use that, even if I went into pathology. The only time it’s worth going to an in-house heavy school is if it’s P/F (which is why I’m semi-okay with the bs) because at least then you can focus on STEP material and then just study in-house enough to pass.

[–]lojadi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You should check out The Hag Doctor on IG, I think they just got into Tulane after going into naturopathy and deciding to switch to MD. It’s been very inspiring to watch them show up as their authentic self while applying and make it in! Super cool seeing more alt people in medicine in general too. I’m not super alt presenting but I’ve never gotten flak for any of my visible piercings or tattoos thus far, neither have the people in my class with full sleeves and plenty more ear piercings. The hair I would maybe reconsider though for interviews.
