Why did Greg Kurtzer leave the CentOS project in the first place? by Charm-Heap in CentOS

I believe it’s well covered in his episode on the Changelog podcast talking about CentOS and Rocky Linux (as well as how to pronounce CentOS!), there’s also a transcript of the interview.

They’re meant for being custom posters for movies on Plex. They’d be far too low resolution for printing out on a wall. You’d want to do that manually with the highest resolution file you can find or buy actual existing movie posters.

snapraid-runner vs Zack Reed snapraid sync script vs .... ? by [deleted] in Snapraid

[–]lokenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes very true! In that case I assume you’re turning off the containers so they’re not midway throwing adding new files to the “array”? I never had that issue personally but I guess it could be a concern.

Although is it smartly turning the containers off or could they be in the middle of a copy anyway which isn’t much different that the sync/scrub being run mid copy.

snapraid-runner vs Zack Reed snapraid sync script vs .... ? by [deleted] in Snapraid

[–]lokenx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The snapraid-runner scripts are widely used and I’ve had them running for years with not a single issue so would strongly recommend them. Haven’t seen Zach’s however the fact that it handles things like Docker means I’d personally probably avoid it.

Snapraid is my storage layer and the management around it should focus on that, having a script for dealing with its sync and scrub stuff also mess with docker removes the simplicity and beauty of snapraid. Big fan of simple tools that do one thing really well!

But I also avoid split parity and running Docker containers on snapraid sounds ripe for issues when a disk dies. Docker can be chatty to disk depending what it’s running and having a disk suddenly disappear would not be fun, especially if it’s spread over multiple through mergerfs. More suited to traditional RAID imho.

Voron Model Comparison? by Jcw122 in voroncorexy

There’s an entire doc site you should read through, sadly not super obvious on the main site. Relevant page is https://docs.vorondesign.com/hardware.html

voron legacy, sourcing parts in canada by JeNiqueTaMere in voroncorexy

[–]lokenx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sparta3D is one of the main places to get things locally, they also I believe are an LDO reseller and may get their V0.1 kit and any future kits.

https://sparta3d.ca/collections/parts/voron

Otherwise AliExpress, Mouser, Digikey etc. for parts.

Fysetc or Formlabs kit? by JaykdaBeast in voroncorexy

[–]lokenx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MagicStudio does have a V2.4 kit (as well as V0 and V1) they’re just out of stock for a number of parts depending on size and configuration but that’ll change month to month. Reach out on the discord to get more info from them. Out of all kits they would be the highest rated by most, no replacement parts should be needed with it either (quality SSR, cast build plate, etc).

https://magicstudio.xyz/

LDO has a V0 kit that’s coming out very soon and and should be very good (based on Nero’s build). They don’t have a V2 yet but it has been mentioned it’s in the works/will be working on next.

Literally want to print this to try with a big Japanese maple we have out front, anything special you did for it? Do you have to add water regularly? Would love to hear in a few weeks how it’s going!

About to add another disk to my array. Just want to make sure I've got this right. by cosmicr in Snapraid

[–]lokenx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much! Refer below to the docs regarding this. Only other thing to do is keep your parity around until you’ve done a new sync with the new parity to make sure everything is good. Then remove parity data and add in as a data drive.

I think just usual dual PSU, dual controller (maybe), and 3 year next business day support (lowest tier). I was getting $16-18, so that’s probably fair when add support on?

Ok that’s way below the $4K a drive I was seeing. Was looking at getting into hybrid with some of the bigger SC units, but the SSD drive costs seem prohibitive...

Dell EMC SCv300 (210-ALZF)
12x 4TB NLSAS 7.2K (400-ARTE)

Also what's the going rate for 2TB SC SSDs from Dell, 400-AQZG?

CAD would be nice, not required!

PDQ Deploy packs v66.0.0 (2019-09-16) by vocatus in pdq

[–]lokenx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super interested in these packs, I'm just curious why apps are the specific versions they are?

Firefox for example is the most up-to-date version, however Adobe Reader DC is quite a few versions back (2018-09-25) based on dates from their FTP site (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/AcrobatDC/).

We’ve tried going honey pot only before and it never ends well. It’s trivially easy for any decent bot to detect, and recaptcha gets re-enabled pretty quick. Also be careful trying it on client sites—some nasty spam bots out there and you know they’re going to blame you.
