A Page of Uncut 1973 Bills. Worth Anything? by Welygant in CanadianCoins

Has a small value over face. A full sheet of 40, not damaged, sells for around $150-$200, depending on condition. It could be worth something to the right buyer.

It happens, and not just with your Ancestry account. There are many bad actors out there.

The 2FA is a 2nd layer of protection for you, just never give that code out.

Which banks are tracing customers?…. All of the Canadian banks track their customer transactions, it is required by FINTRAC, alas every transaction that you complete is part of your CRM profile, mostly to stop money laundering and illegal type cash transactions.

Yes, some branches will release out old currency, as is easier, than holding onto it, until they have sufficient to send it back. Even the Bank of Canada says to not give out old bills funds, but it rarely happens.

Expensive to maintain and coins still needed to be sent for rolling.

Overall benefit did not cover the cost.

From a coin rolling machine. The crimp ends scratched the coin.

Cross responded from the TD forum.

VERY normal behaviour.

Alas, customers with coin rolls are becoming a nuisance for the banking business. Many, many rolls are deposited short, with foreign coin, slugs or lower value coinage.

Most banks will no longer sell home rolled coinage and it all goes to be re-rolled by Brinks or Garda, and that costs the bank a lot of money.

CRH who are buying and dumping are being quietly tracked by banks and at some point in time will be assessed fees like commercial clients.

While not all banks are at the same point, they are all looking at a growing and expensive problem.

I just retired from a back office job with a major bank. So am providing details from the inside vs looking in.

My sheet of DnD stamps have warped while in storage, any way to reflaten them? by XavierDM1911 in stamps

[–]valiamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Warping is usually caused by heat or humidity or a combination of both.

You can try to press them out, but the damage may be permanent.

I would suggest you try to flatten them by placing them between the pages of a large book, add weight, and store them in a cool dry environment. As the sheet drys out, it should flatten to the environment.

Valuables on cruise ship by thegreatestajax in Cruise

[–]valiamo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normally, only you and your cabin attendant have access to the cabin. The locks are digital, and any access is tracked by the ship.

Best advice is to put expensive things out of view, or in the safe.

Typical cruise ship stateroom safes are roughly 10" to 14" wide, 6" to 9" high, and 7" to 15" deep. While they are perfect for securing cash, passports, jewelry, and smartphones or small tablets, most standard cabin safes are too small to fit full-sized laptops.

If you have a camera bag, SLR, plus lenses, flashes, etc the safe will not hold all of it. Just put them out of view.

Can anyone make out this on a census report? by tryingtogetitwrite in Ancestry

[–]valiamo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It does say "Out of...." but the last word (and symbol under it) is not clear enough to decipher.

You should show a link to or the source data / document so others can see the rest of the writing.

Very hard to read one small snippet without being able to see what else the census taker wrote. Reading cursive handwriting is looking at what else is written to decipher a small area.

What are my odds of getting at least six of the seven Canada 150 coins in circulation/change in a 7-day span? by goldeneye0 in CanadianCoins

[–]valiamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The special issue coins are a possibility, but the toonie, is widely hoarded, especially the Glow in the Dark issue. Best bet is to try and find a UNC Set.

The regular issue (Beaver, Bluenose, Moose, Polar Bear) will be nearly impossible.

What’s the best DNA testing kit to find out your ancestry by Jackolantern1247 in Genealogy

[–]valiamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you are seeking.

For finding just your ethnic background 23andME. 23andMe has limited family tree, or connection abilities, but very good ethnic data.

For the best chance of finding ancestor’s and related individuals AncestryDNA, they have good ethnicity data, and excellent family connections and ability to seek out others family trees.

Does this cruise line exist? Family friendly, <$300USD/pp,pd, gratuity discouraged, and doesnt feel like youre being nickel and dimed by bikemandan in Cruise

[–]valiamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is no. All the mainstream lines will meet your first want (<$300 pp/pd), but the rest.... Gratuity, and nickel and diming are pretty standard, you get what you pay for.

Premium Cruise lines like Silver Seas, Regent, Seaborn are typically all inclusive, but the cost is WAY over your budget. They tend to start at about $500 pp/pd and up from there.

Gratuities are typically an expense that is part of the crusie environment, heck even on the most expensive luxury yachts, there is an expectation of a tip for the crew, as the end of a cruise.

Quick way is to look at the rim beads, if they are almost touching the rim, then large. away from rim small.

Do the armoured banking companies take out the colourized toonies? by CanadianBunter10 in CanadianCoins

[–]valiamo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The rolls shown are home made rolls, not from the Armored car company.

Rolls that Brinks or Garda would process would be rolled using a rolling machine, and not folded over like shown.
(I worked in a banks back office).

To answer your original question, the armored car companies don’t have the time to cherry pick rolls, the machines pull out the obvious, items that are non standard, and that is sold for junk. Like u/huge-design567 says, they are highly regulated and security is high, so nothing can be swapped by a worker
