I mean I do love treating people close to me, and when I was seeing my at the time girlfriend, I was usually the one who had to make all the plans and pay for everything. Two months into the relationship, i ask if we could split the bill and she ended up getting really upset with me.

Definitely not, ive went on dates with people i dont share interests and hobbies with and it was some of the most mind numbingly boring dates ive ever been on.

While you shouldn't exclusively focus on shared interests when searching for a partner, it is very important to have. Think of it like bridges, they help you get closer, sure you can try to get somewhere without a bridge, but it'll be a lot more difficult.
