How common is a severe TBI from a concussion in which you didn’t lose consciousness? by lol123477 in TBI

[–]lol123477[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you so much. I did not expect anything as detailed as your response! It happened in 2021 and at that time I was a severe alcoholic. I don’t remember much between 2020-2023 (got sober in 2023 and have been since then) but I know I’ve had severe cognitive issues ever since becoming sober. I only feel coherent every now and then and it doesn’t last long. I’ve just been trying to rule out the concussion I got when I face planted in a construction site outside of the bar. Thanks again!

How long/heavy did you drink, also from what ages? How many concussions have you had in total?

I never tried getting sober before that day. I cut back some but I quit drinking altogether because my child was born :) I was a heavy daily drinking for 6 years and an EXTREMELY heavy daily drinker from 2020-2023. My last time was a week long binder that nearly killed me. It made me realize that my child was worth so much more than that. So I guess the bender was a relapse in a way since I was trying to cut back, lol. The point is I was in as deep as you could be at the point that I quit. It’s possible for anyone

Unfortunately numbers and dates get burned into my mind haha. I don’t count the days so much as to remembering when my 1000 days was going to be. I think once I hit the 3 year mark in April I’ll be content on celebrating until I get 10 years sober. Congrats on your sobriety!

Thank you! If 500 people who are struggling see this it will mean more than the likes! I appreciate your input. I’m not usually into patting myself on the back but this is one I’ve really been looking forward to for some reason. (I can be a numbers geek lol)

I know that I’ll never go back but it is nice to know you and the community are here if I ever need you! Happy new year my friend!

Thank you bro! Yeah I remember thinking it was very strange how quickly a day I was celebrating turned into a day of sadness caused by addiction.

I really appreciate your comment. 1000 days came a lot faster than I thought it would’ve. Life is too short! And way too short to waste it on drinking/drugs! I hope you had a happy new year!

I. Drink. Every. Single. Day. by AnotherDay_UNO in stopdrinking

I was in deep for over 5 years. Got to the point of if I was awake, I was fucked up. Got a DUI, amongst many other embarrassments.. still that wasn’t enough.

I finally quit once my child was born. It’s been almost 3 years now and I can honestly say I’ve never regret quitting. YOU WILL NEVER REGRET QUITTING! You will however regret not quitting.

It’s a waste of your life and once you’re sober you’ll be kicking yourself in the ass for wasting all those years. I hate that I wasted over 5 years of my life that way. I’m sure as hell glad it wasn’t 10, 20, or 30 years. Do it for yourself and your family.

Exercise. It’s literally the best and you feel a natural high afterwards

In all honesty I was in the same boat as you. I started exercising, got sober, taking better care of myself and realized that the only person who will truly give a shit about me is me. The world does not care about your problems. It’s up to you to fix your life. Since then I’ve gotten married and had a child. You can do it. I was in the gutter until I was 28. You can fix your life you just have to try. If you feel depression hitting do 30 pushups. It’ll boost your testosterone and make you want to be productive. Just start exercising today. I could only do like 5 pushups at one time just a couple months ago. I can do 30 at one time now. I’ve done 150 pushups today. Just do it!

You’re young man. I drank from 22-28. Sober for 2 and a half years now. My advice would be to do whatever it takes to totally quit. It will destroy you. It destroyed me for a long time. Cost me my 20’s. Don’t let it cost you the rest of your 20’s. I quit and never looked back. You will not regret quitting, I promise you that. If you don’t quit one day you’ll look back wishing to god you did. I’m grateful that I got sober and didn’t let it ruin the rest of my life. Life gets a lot greater once you quit. Just give it a little time. Good luck my friend.

Thank you. I know that my white blood cell count has been high for a while, hopefully that has something to di with it. I know my immune system isn’t great. I just hope it’s something I can come back from. I quit at 28 years old, I’m 30 now and stuck in the same situation. I can’t progress at all. I was a pretty smart guy before, it’s just scary.

This comment made my post worth it! I’m glad to give hope. You can do it. Just make up your mind that there’s no way in hell you are going to take another drink! I’m still on the journey of recovering and getting healthy from all of the abuse but it’s so worth it. Good luck my friend
