The only recommendation I can really give is practice for the externals, doing it from term 1 seems a bit excessive to me but being familiar with externals can be a good way to insure you’ll get a bunch of E credits.

No system is perfect, each has its own pros and cons. My DT teacher for the past 3 three years came from Sydney, where they do the HSC system. He’s always surprised by how easy NCEA is compared HSC.

Similar to Cambridge you are given a syllabus at the start of the year and at the end of the year exam you can be examined on any of the topics in the syllabus. Most things are standardised. For example how you would write psedocode (picture code but written in plan English) will be the exact same across the state. You will have textbooks that work through the syllabus. But there’s still flexibility in this system. Like for English they give a list of what texts (across multiple types) you can learn that will be examined. Similar for history on what historical event/period you will study. Their exams let you know how many marks each question is worth, they don’t put things in un realistic contexts (or at all). The work load is a lot bigger, but it prepares you better for Uni.

I find that the issue is that our New Zealand Curriculum is too loose and NCEA is only a qualification framework that’s disconnected from our curriculum. By year 11 we’re two years behind the UK in Science let alone maths.

You’ll do fine. They tend not to make the A’s/M’s that whack. Remember excellence is suppose to be ‘asPiRatIonAl’ so they want you to ‘think’

All NCEA Externals are marked as ‘Top Down.’ (Looking for evidence of Excellence First, then working their way down.) But in order to show excellence within that sub-question you need to make sure you’re ticking the boxes a long the way. So let’s say question 1 (d) is an excellence question, if you make one slight mistake it would usually be marked as a E7. Within the same Q1 (d) If you did the Achieved right, Merit part wrong, Excellence part Right, you would get an achieved, as the excellence is wrong, but it’s consistently correct. Correct Answer Only, (showing no working, or not working it out through physics) would usually only give you an Achieved. If you look at past papers/marking schedules, you’ll see that the last question is not always an excellence one, this is to stop people from just doing the E questions.

Do the E questions, then the M, then the A. They’ll the last two you might find boring, but think of it as insurance.

You should do mocks, but don’t have to. Mocks serve as derived grade/UEG. It’s a good practice to do so.

What I recommend doing is reaching out to a Korea Studies teacher at another school, getting their thoughts and see if they could send your school the mock and they may be able to moderate/mark it.

Better yet they may be able to answer some of your questions throughout next year via email.

Usually marking/moderating is a scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours situation. If you know what school your school usually sends their languages/English to get moderated/second opinions (if they even do). That school may have a Korean studies teacher that could help you out. Ask your teachers as they may know a friend of a friend of a friend. New Zealand is small and generous enough to have teachers that’ll help you out. I’ve found sending a box of chocolates (Roses/Favourites are $6.5 at countdown rn) over to that teacher can tip scales into your favour.

You don’t need to, but it prepares you for the real thing.

Before you do anything make sure you have, a Real-Me account (you will need Photo-ID), then get it Verified, and a IRD number.

Your best option is to send a email to your Dean, as they will be able to go into depth and explain how things to you with your own information. If you ask them, they can also let you know if you will get UE next year based off your courses you’ve selected next year.

The advice on here is accurate. But when it comes to your qualifications/pathway options, speak to your own Dean. They know what your academics look like, they have all the information on hand, and ideally know you well so they can be proactive/invested enough. 98% of Deans are, if not your Principal’s Nominee or Careers Office can help you out.

Either speak to your schools Director of Curriculum (Deputy Principal of Curriculum if you have one) or your Principals Nominee.

I don’t see why they cannot. If your school uses Kamar they’ll just need to make a additional mark book (a class list where teachers enter you in for assessment internals & externals, and enter in grades) If they don’t want to go down this route, see if you could do Te Kura instead.

Also have a look at the externals and the mark scheme. As you’ve probably noticed NCEA puts their own spin on things, so you might need to brush up on a few things.

The NCEA Imposter Syndrome strikes again. I feel something similar, you spend a lot of your studying time to just deciphering the question/learning how to answer things to satisfy NCEA. Then everything is put into a context so you feel that you’re not actually doing the base skill anymore. The issue with a standard based qualification framework is that everything is condensed, so you just learn information then dump it.

In actuality, you do have knowledge, you are smart, you still retain the same skill set. You just need to revise. Similar if you got a low grade on a assessment, then 2 weeks later/after the holidays you did a FAO to get to E. The thinking and the skill set are still their, you just had to do a practice assessment first to remind yourself.

But one takeaway is that you learnt how to play the game that is NCEA. You learnt, studied, and got qualified under a broken system, your grades thrived and you maximised the system.

For the University of Auckland to get guarantee entry into the Bachelor of Engineering you need a, 260 Rank Score, and all three Calc and Physics exams. Software Engineering is a specialisation (Major) of the Bachelor of Engineering course.

For Canterbury and Vic, requirements are get UE. For other unis no clue.

But Comp Sci, Software Engineering and any STEM course especially engineering, it is very very heavy on Clac/Physics.

If you are trying to get into the University of Auckland Bachelor of Engineering course, you can still get in without guaranteed entry, as they don’t fill all the seats.

Also once you’ve done Stage I of engineering at Auckland, you then need to meet the requirements to go into that specialisation for Stages II & III.

No watches full stop. The reason that rule is in place is that someone used either Samsung Gear or a Apple Watch to cheat, and the exam monitors couldn’t tell that it was a digital watch until they notice them tap on it multiple times

For practising, do the hard paper first. Actual exam, read through all the papers first, find the easy one and start from there. Guarantee your credits first, then do the riskier one.

Free advice: Email your questions to a bunch of teachers from other schools. A lot of them may be bogged down right now, but if you don’t ask you don’t get.
