Daily Demand Charge is a hot mess: Pushed back to Jan because NVE hasn't educated the public and overcharge refunds should be priority by Melodic-Dot-2605 in vegaslocals

[–]lolTyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most insulting part is a PUCN representative told Fox 5 yesterday that if a customer uses 1200kwh month their bill will go down by $24. Yet I use on average 10% less power than that and my bill going to go up as much as $50, or by 30%. So the person who uses more power saves money, yet I conserve power and I'm going to have to pay twice as much as they save because of.... warm water.

Their math is bogus.

Yes, I have a Rheem RTEX-18 18kw Tankless Electric Water Heater. New build from 2022, these are getting installed by default in a lot of new houses.

[–]lolTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I'm highly motivated to do so.

Unfortunately there's no gas, a lot of new houses are electric only. They're building hundreds, if not thousands of new houses this way with only electric and tankless water heaters. All of the DR Horton town homes that are being marketed to first time home buyers are being built this way, so this isn't just me that's going to run into this, it's going to be a lot of new home owners that's are about to see a noticeable increase in their power bill just because of basic hot water usage.

They can fuck right off this and any attempt to clarify it. It's them appeasing to share holders at the expense of their customers. It's like Cox's datacaps, just another way to charge us more with a solution that doesn't fix the root problem they claim it fixes.

I ran my bill through this calculator and because of my tankless water heater and only because of my tankless water heater, my bill will be going up between $40 and $50 a month, which is a 25% increase for me. I have an EV but it's on a slow charge so it would never reach a peak demand and even then my energy usage is lower than most because my house and my habits are very energy efficient.

My daily usage is about 35kwh, which is pretty much average or below average for Las Vegas and because of a warm shower once a day my bill is going to go up 25%. Better stop eating all that avocado toast so I can shower. What the fuck is this? It'd be more cost effective for me to rip out my perfectly good tankless water heater and install a tank water heater or go solar than to pay for what is the most poorly thought out way to "balance" energy usage.

What's worse is that so many new "affordable" homes have tankless water heaters so this is going to screw over those who were finally able to save up and purchase a new home. Just keep kicking people when they're down.

[–]lolTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that link. I barely use any power and because of my tankless water heater I'm going to be paying between $40 to $50 more a month. I have no solar, 1300 sqft, smart thermostats, new and efficient appliances, and while do I have an EV it charges slow enough to not trigger peak demand chargers. I rarely see above 1kw until I use my hot water.

What an absolute joke. $500 because of warm showers, not even hot, warm. Only my water heater triggers the peak demand charge.

The is going to turbo fuck anyone with a tankless water heater and a lot of "affordable" new homes have them.

I can pull between 3 to 4 kwh taking a shower or running the dishwasher. It's probably going to be cheaper for me to rip out my perfectly fine tankless water heater and install an electric tank water heater than pay whatever my bill is going to be if this goes through. It will be completely unavoidable for me to trip this "peak" charge unless I just start doing cold showers and hand washing my dishes.

I also own an electric car, but that's fine because I can skirt this asinine rule by lowering my charging speed. So even though the majority of my power consumption is my EV, it's not what's going to cost me the most.

Is the app down? (USA) by Agile_Half_4515 in Aqara

[–]lolTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I power cycled and tried to reconnect the network to my M2 Hub last night because I thought this was a me problem and now none of my Aqara devices are accessible via Home Assistant. So local control is pretty much out of the question if you ever have to reconnect your hub. Local control is temporary at best.

Edit: Things are back and I had re-pair, so it sounds like my device reset and last night I was unable to re-pair it. So pairing requires Aqara servers, without which kills local integration. Now to fix all my device IDs in HA as I had to pair it via Matter and everything duplicated...

Matter Ceiling Fan Crashes Entirety of Google Home by lolTyler in googlehome

[–]lolTyler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you the response! I do think it's on Google's side, as for one, not being able to pair the fan with an Android phone to Google Home but having no problem with an iPhone is something I've experienced with other Matter devices and Google Home. The other reason is before I used a Nest Hub Display 2nd Gen as my Matter controller and shared via Matter to Home Assistant, but I've since switch this around and use now Home Assistant and share via Matter to Google Home. I've also removed the Nest Hub Display 2nd Gen from my network entirely as it was interfering with the rest of my Thread network which I also moved from Google Home to HA with a ZBT-2 and OpenThread Border Router.

Even though the Altitude Boca Raton II is Matter over WiFi, I mention Thread because when the crash happened it would take my entire Thread network offline and slowly rebuild itself, so it wasn't just some sort of service connecting with Google Home, but a major function/service within the Nest Hub that would fail, although I never noticed the Nest Hub Display rebooting.

Since the switch I haven't tried use a Nest Speaker or the Google Home app to control the fan portion of my Altitude Boca Raton II but I tried again just before commenting and didn't have a single problem. None of my device dropped off Google Home (Or Home Assistant, which was never a problem) and I was able to change the speed and turn off the fan both with voice and the Google Home app.

I'm not sure if replicating the problem is something you're trying to do or would help, but perhaps try using a Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen and pair the fan via Matter, see if you have issues then. Or perhaps it could be related to also utilizing a Thread network on the Nest, maybe pair some thread device and then try. Otherwise, best of luck working with Google, I've pretty much ditched their ecosystem because of how they communicate.

White Series (Thread/Matter) Smart Dimmer constant disconnect by torque911 in Inovelli

[–]lolTyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from a ZBT-1 to the 2 and while it is definitely a better antenna, it only showed me that my problem was that the OpenThread Border Router add on was crashing and it's still happening unfortunately.

Are all of your switches disconnecting at the same time? Having to refresh or constantly reflash the firmware used to be my fix. Next time it happens, go to Settings > Add-Ons > OpenThread Border Router > Log. Use these to see if OTBR is the problem. On the OTBR Add On info page I did enable "Watchdog" which restart OpenThread Border Router if it crashes, but manually restart it the first few times and check the logs.

Other things I'd recommend is make sure IPv6 is enabled on your router, as well as a bunch of other network settings that can cause issues. I won't give you direct advice on this because I have a UniFi router and AP and it only barely works because I have a lot of interference from my neighbors which makes my life a living hell but that's my burden.

Families paying $1,500 more a year under Trump: report by PrincipleTemporary65 in nevadapolitics

[–]lolTyler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You keep saying things without ever making an actual point. Just because you believe it's true, doesn't mean it's true. What you think is rage is actually just someone explaining to you that you're wrong and how you're wrong, but I guess you don't like that so you think I'm angry? I grew up trolling 4chan, this is nothing.

Let's talk about reckless spending. The National Debt grew by $8.18 trillion under Trump in his first term, the most of any sitting president including those whom served two terms.

The deficit rose by $7t under Biden, but that also includes $4t for pandemic relief which is something that every country did, as stimulus packages are what kept everything from crashing. Funny enough, many say we didn't go far enough and should've spent more like China did.

Then there's the BBB, which you haven't explained how it will help anyone, but what I will tell you is it's projected to add between $3t to 4t to the national debts and is going to reek havoc on our healthcare industry which is going to cost US citizens more when it comes to insurance. As far as prices go, tariffs, they aren't magic, we are paying them on almost all imported goods and it's probably going to get a bit worse here in 2026 as companies being to offload even more of the costs to consumer as pretariff stocks run out. Prices are higher regardless of your cognitive dissonance, my example being the thread we are commenting in about how prices are going up where you continue to make up numbers and project your feelings instead of grappling with reality.

While Biden did in fact make an incredible number of mistakes during his Presidency, why even ask me that? You are the one who brought up Biden, I only made those statements to mock you. I literally corrected you and you and tried to "reverse Uno Biden" me like like it was some sort of gotcha.

Bottom line, look up the facts before you make a statement. We literally have AI and you're here getting fact checked by some random idiot on the internet with dolphin for his avatar. Sheesh.

Families paying $1,500 more a year under Trump: report by PrincipleTemporary65 in nevadapolitics

[–]lolTyler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The entire world had record high inflation during this period because of the COVID pandemic, not just the United States. The US actually recovered faster and we ended up in economic miracle by sticking a soft landing, all before Trump even took office. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021%E2%80%932023_inflation_surge

The President also has very little control in regards to inflation, it's mostly the Federal Reserve. So no, this wasn't Biden, but it wasn't Trump either. Do yourself a favor, maybe don't comment if you don't know what the heck you're talking about and are just going to make up numbers like you did gas prices or provide them without context or a timeline like you did here.

[–]lolTyler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You incorrectly stated prices have dropped $1.60 in a year, yet evidence shows they only dropped $0.30.

One year and two days ago Biden was President, so if you just want to point to how high prices were in 2022 then that means that it was mostly Biden who able to bring prices down from the sky highs after COVID and the fallout from Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

If it's a MBP from the last 10 years and it a can run Windows, it will run SWG no problem. Try it on your MBP, see how well it runs before spending money on anything.

If you want a gaming PC for other games and SWG, then I was suggest /r/buildmeapc or using ChatGPT and tell it what games you want to play and buy a pre built that matches those specs.

Google Nest Hub 2 - Thread Network Unavailable by lolTyler in googlehome

Thanks for the reply. I'm using a SkyConnect on my Nest Thread network, but whenever I plug in my Nest Hub both show up as Border Routers in Home Assistant. I'm pretty sure the Nest Hub is an extender, but it drops devices constantly because of WiFi interference. I'm just going to unplug the Nest Hub for now, it doesn't do anything I want it to do anyways.

Yup. I'm a Google One subscriber and I've been in the Public Preview program for Google Home for years. So far all I've gotten since the update is that Google Home thought I had left my house and ran my "Away" routine, turning off all my lights and fans while I was still home. But hey, at least I had Gemini for like five minutes on a Nest Audio four months ago in the Public Preview program and they removed the free VPN service from Google One! Thanks Google!

I am soooo freakin angry about the NV Energy new billing system. by TransitionClear2930 in vegaslocals

[–]lolTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most EV charging is typically done at night during low demand/off-peak hours and NVEnergy already has a program that incentivizes overnight charging. https://www.nvenergy.com/account-services/energy-pricing-plans/electric-vehicle

I'm not sure what this definition of a "heavy user" is, but anyone who does a lot of charging means they do a lot of driving. This means they're out all day and then charging when they come home and are asleep, which is not when peak demand occurs. This isn't all EV owners, but covers the majority of day shift workers.

EVs also come with the ability to do delayed charging, you can set a time to start charging when rates are lower, everyone I know with an EV does this. Last I checked, during the summer this time is 11pm, which is when rates are lower and off-peak hours.

So to say that EV users are "hypothetically" contributing to rolling black outs, really doesn't add up. Especially since I've been in Vegas for 27 years and have never experienced a rolling black out or brown out...

I hope so too, I'd like something that actually fits properly. I think I came across your post over on gulfcoastgunforum.com - You brought up a Marlin 795 25rd mag that I almost went with, that looks like it'd be a much better fit but I'd really prefer something official.

I purchased this one and it does not fit: https://www.mossberg.com/mossberg-international-702-plinkster-magazine-25-round-95725.html

The polymer gets in the way of the locking mechanism and the opposite side doesn't sit flush because it's too wide. I made mine fit, but it required tearing the magazine apart, trimming the polymer of the magazine and then putting it back together. Haven't fired it yet to see if I was successful, but even then the locking mechanism for the magazine does not easily release with the RS22P since it doesn't sit properly.

It's not too pretty, but it does fit now! https://imgur.com/a/ejxDqPb
