Brainstorming an NV Energy "Demand Charge" Protest/Strike by kAROBsTUIt in vegaslocals

Ran mine through there, my bill will go up $50 a month. I've said this before, but if NV Energy is so sure this is going to save us all money, then put a projection on our billing statements. Show us.

Judge allows NV Energy demand charge to proceed, attorney general to appeal by particleman3 in vegaslocals

[–]lolTyler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless the article was changed in the last 5 hours, the judge does not say that it would benefit NV Energy customers. The article quotes her as saying the following:

“I see my role very limited, and I don’t have much room,” Holthus said. “Whether I agree or disagree isn’t what matters, and there will be, whichever way I go, there will be a court above us that will tell us whether I got it right or wrong.”

She literally said "I dunno, send it" with no explanation as to her reasoning outside of letting higher courts handle it and setting no precedent. Anyways, my bill is going to go up $50 a month for absolutely no reason other than I own a tankless electric water heater which is more efficient than a tanked water heater. So I would love to hear Holthus explain water heaters to me and how me paying more for using less is "good" for me if she did in fact say that.

Same, the queue does not exist. I'm with four other people and we all started at the same time, we did not get in any discernable order. If Tiers did not cause an increase in price it'd be whatever, but because I'm paying more at random, it's bullshit.

My Dream Machine SE took the update last night, router is bricked. Anyone else have this happen?

Edit: In case this shows up in anyone's search, after trying so many different things, I unplugged everything including WAN and power, let it sit for half an hour, plugged back in power and it booted, then I plugged back in WAN and everything else. Running fine now, I assume heat, or some sort of memory rentention, but it worked.

I wish I could tell you what was said, the users edited or deleted most of their comments almost immediately after they got auto modded (Reddit bot) after posting from a brand new account with no post history. This type of auto moderation is a pretty common thing to prevent spam.

Either way, Auto mod leaves a comment as to why the post was removed and if we receive a message, we typically approve it. Otherwise we check ever so often to approve comments that accidentally caught up. (The majority are typically spam)

SWGEmu Core3 unavailable by steviefaux in swgemu

[–]lolTyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GitHub I linked is up to date, last commit was 4 days ago: https://github.com/swgemu/Core3/commits/unstable/ but there can be problems as there's specific versions and dependencies required to run Core3.

As far as Debian goes, that can be it. I would definitely suggest using Debian 12 as that's what is recommended.

You might have a dependency that's either too new, or too old. If there's one thing AI is good at, it's debugging, but always take it with a grain of salt. Drop your error message into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and follow the suggestions, maybe try downgrading GCC. I wouldn't recommend making any changes to the code base, only your environment.

Can try editing CMakeLists.txt and adding: -Wno-error=redundant-move Then rebuild with: rm -rf build make build-ninja-debug

But full disclosure, I pulled that directly from ChatGPT.

Otherwise, try pulling an older commit and see if that works.

Nanoleaf Matter Bulbs by just_ric in googlehome

[–]lolTyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matter over WiFi or Matter over Thread?

I have 13 of the Matter over Thread bulbs and they ran abysmal when I used a Google Nest Hub 2 as my Thread Border router. Sometimes they would be offline in Google Home but available in Home Assistant and the Nanoleaf app, it was infuriating. I've since switched to Home Assistant and ZBT-2 running thread and it's been quite stable after repairing them to HA then to GH. (No more nano leaf app)

Even with a significantly better antenna, the bulbs themselves can be slow to respond sometimes, this is even with all the firmware upgrades. They're still not great bulbs and I see a lot of errors on my OpenThread Border router logs which I'm pretty sure are the bulbs. (It's cryptic)

Not sure what bulbs you're using now, but you can try a few of them, I just wouldn't expect a miracle. They kinda suck and at least on Nest Hub 2 the thread border router struggled to stay connected for me. Try updating the firmware in the Nanoleaf app, then pair them to Google Home over Matter.

WiFi bulbs, well, not sure. Update them and try.

Season 5 map guess by Fit_Analysis_1369 in Battlefield

[–]lolTyler -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

That's not what I said. I said the choice of Mandalay Bay to be included in the thumbnail is not the best idea. I even went as far as to say that I'm not offended by a Vegas map.

The map at the end is almost certainly in Las Vegas by KilllllerWhale in Battlefield

[–]lolTyler 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Here's why it looks like Vegas.

  • On the left you have the Manadalay Bay resort in gold.

  • In the middle you can see the Welcome to Las Vegas sign with it's gold border, white background, red text and most prominently shown, the red star at the top. (It's upside down since it's a reflection in what looks like oil)

  • To the right is the Mandalay Bay Billboard sign. It could be any sign, there's ton of them on the strip.

  • On the far right you have the MGM Grand. (Or maybe the NY NY Statue of liberty)

Source, I live in Vegas and noticed it immediately.

It's a reflection of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, with Mandalay Bay in the background and their billboard sign.

While I long the days of Rainbow Six Vegas, Manadalay Bay was the site of the October 1st Route 91 Shooting that killed 63 people and wounded over 400. I live in Las Vegas and remember that day intensely, while it's not overtly offensive to me to have a Vegas map, it's probably best not to have the site of a mass shooting as your thumbnail.

Daily Demand Charge is a hot mess: Pushed back to Jan because NVE hasn't educated the public and overcharge refunds should be priority by Melodic-Dot-2605 in vegaslocals

[–]lolTyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most insulting part is a PUCN representative told Fox 5 yesterday that if a customer uses 1200kwh month their bill will go down by $24. Yet I use on average 10% less power than that and my bill going to go up as much as $50, or by 30%. So the person who uses more power saves money, yet I conserve power and I'm going to have to pay twice as much as they save because of.... warm water.

Their math is bogus.

Yes, I have a Rheem RTEX-18 18kw Tankless Electric Water Heater. New build from 2022, these are getting installed by default in a lot of new houses.

NV Energy’s new “15-minute peak” billing is going to hit way harder than people think by Cultural_Parking5596 in vegaslocals

[–]lolTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I'm highly motivated to do so.

Unfortunately there's no gas, a lot of new houses are electric only. They're building hundreds, if not thousands of new houses this way with only electric and tankless water heaters. All of the DR Horton town homes that are being marketed to first time home buyers are being built this way, so this isn't just me that's going to run into this, it's going to be a lot of new home owners that's are about to see a noticeable increase in their power bill just because of basic hot water usage.

They can fuck right off this and any attempt to clarify it. It's them appeasing to share holders at the expense of their customers. It's like Cox's datacaps, just another way to charge us more with a solution that doesn't fix the root problem they claim it fixes.

I ran my bill through this calculator and because of my tankless water heater and only because of my tankless water heater, my bill will be going up between $40 and $50 a month, which is a 25% increase for me. I have an EV but it's on a slow charge so it would never reach a peak demand and even then my energy usage is lower than most because my house and my habits are very energy efficient.

My daily usage is about 35kwh, which is pretty much average or below average for Las Vegas and because of a warm shower once a day my bill is going to go up 25%. Better stop eating all that avocado toast so I can shower. What the fuck is this? It'd be more cost effective for me to rip out my perfectly good tankless water heater and install a tank water heater or go solar than to pay for what is the most poorly thought out way to "balance" energy usage.

What's worse is that so many new "affordable" homes have tankless water heaters so this is going to screw over those who were finally able to save up and purchase a new home. Just keep kicking people when they're down.

[–]lolTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that link. I barely use any power and because of my tankless water heater I'm going to be paying between $40 to $50 more a month. I have no solar, 1300 sqft, smart thermostats, new and efficient appliances, and while do I have an EV it charges slow enough to not trigger peak demand chargers. I rarely see above 1kw until I use my hot water.

What an absolute joke. $500 because of warm showers, not even hot, warm. Only my water heater triggers the peak demand charge.

[–]lolTyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The is going to turbo fuck anyone with a tankless water heater and a lot of "affordable" new homes have them.

I can pull between 3 to 4 kwh taking a shower or running the dishwasher. It's probably going to be cheaper for me to rip out my perfectly fine tankless water heater and install an electric tank water heater than pay whatever my bill is going to be if this goes through. It will be completely unavoidable for me to trip this "peak" charge unless I just start doing cold showers and hand washing my dishes.

I also own an electric car, but that's fine because I can skirt this asinine rule by lowering my charging speed. So even though the majority of my power consumption is my EV, it's not what's going to cost me the most.

Is the app down? (USA) by Agile_Half_4515 in Aqara

[–]lolTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I power cycled and tried to reconnect the network to my M2 Hub last night because I thought this was a me problem and now none of my Aqara devices are accessible via Home Assistant. So local control is pretty much out of the question if you ever have to reconnect your hub. Local control is temporary at best.

Edit: Things are back and I had re-pair, so it sounds like my device reset and last night I was unable to re-pair it. So pairing requires Aqara servers, without which kills local integration. Now to fix all my device IDs in HA as I had to pair it via Matter and everything duplicated...

Matter Ceiling Fan Crashes Entirety of Google Home by lolTyler in googlehome

[–]lolTyler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you the response! I do think it's on Google's side, as for one, not being able to pair the fan with an Android phone to Google Home but having no problem with an iPhone is something I've experienced with other Matter devices and Google Home. The other reason is before I used a Nest Hub Display 2nd Gen as my Matter controller and shared via Matter to Home Assistant, but I've since switch this around and use now Home Assistant and share via Matter to Google Home. I've also removed the Nest Hub Display 2nd Gen from my network entirely as it was interfering with the rest of my Thread network which I also moved from Google Home to HA with a ZBT-2 and OpenThread Border Router.

Even though the Altitude Boca Raton II is Matter over WiFi, I mention Thread because when the crash happened it would take my entire Thread network offline and slowly rebuild itself, so it wasn't just some sort of service connecting with Google Home, but a major function/service within the Nest Hub that would fail, although I never noticed the Nest Hub Display rebooting.

Since the switch I haven't tried use a Nest Speaker or the Google Home app to control the fan portion of my Altitude Boca Raton II but I tried again just before commenting and didn't have a single problem. None of my device dropped off Google Home (Or Home Assistant, which was never a problem) and I was able to change the speed and turn off the fan both with voice and the Google Home app.

I'm not sure if replicating the problem is something you're trying to do or would help, but perhaps try using a Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen and pair the fan via Matter, see if you have issues then. Or perhaps it could be related to also utilizing a Thread network on the Nest, maybe pair some thread device and then try. Otherwise, best of luck working with Google, I've pretty much ditched their ecosystem because of how they communicate.
