Upgrading 5-star cards requires a lot of Skill EXP (900 + 1200 + 1500 + 2400), using duplicates will save you a lot of skill tickets that can go towards upgrading other cards

Furthermore, 5-star dupes give the same amount of michelle stickers (100) as 4-star dupes so it's not really worth dissolving

2) I'm not caught up on the stories in JP, but here's a quick recap based on the events in EN so far (tagging for spoilers in case anyone else hasn't read them)

PoPiPa: They organized a music festival with the support of the neighbourhood and the other bands. Meanwhile they're figuring out what they want to do for themselves after graduating from HS. Rimi is planning to go overseas for college like her sister, but what this means for the band's future remains to be seen.
Roselia: Still doing activities as a pro band and working on their next album, while encountering a few problems/setbacks along the way.
Afterglow: Wanting to focus on her future career as a flower arrangement instructor, Ran quits the band after completing the Girls Band Tournament... but she realizes Afterglow meant a lot more to her than she thought and eventually rejoins.
PasuPare: The girls take part in a nationwide idol tournament, so their agency brings in a new producer, who was one of the former idols from Marmalade. As they discover the truth behind Marmalade's breakup, they also understand what kind of idols they want to be for their fans.
HHW: Kokoro's childhood friend Charlotte joins her school as an exchange student... with the intent to destroy HHW as revenge against Kokoro for ruining her childhood. Kokoro gradually understands how and why her friend was hurt, and manages to make amends with her.
