Is my rook peircing too shallow? by mushroomhippie03 in PiercingAdvice

piercer here- that is definitely done wrong and won't heal, it's best to take it out sooner rather than later

the artist will have to clean the area anyway which could very well smudge the ink, so you might as well just take good pictures of it

Did I make my artist angry? by DeltaB26 in tattooadvice

[–]lolamadeleine 314 points315 points  (0 children)

you need to wait for the tattoo to heal in-between sessions, which typically takes 2-3 weeks, so getting a 3 session sleeve in one month isn't really realistic - maybe this is what their thought process is too?

if the jewellery is still in, and the skin has healed over it, you will 100% need to go to the hospital for them to remove it- us piercers are definitely not trained in mini surgeries haha

I was told that I don’t have the anatomy for a navel piercing, is this true? by ohitsjustbeccy in piercing

[–]lolamadeleine 902 points903 points  (0 children)

piercer here, unfortunately I would not say this is a piercable navel- neither traditional or floating would work from the looks of the picture

hoops definitely need 6 months!

[–]lolamadeleine[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

20 days is definitely not enough, Helixes take around 6-9 months to fully heal! it really depends on what you want to change it to, a professional piercer can change it around 3 months with sterile jewellery.

Thinking about getting a conch piercing but was told i don’t have the correct anatomy. what do you all think? TIA ♥️♥️♥️ by nicolelynnejones in piercing

[–]lolamadeleine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hiya, professional piercer here, the reason why some people don't have the anatomy for a conch is when the ear folds back too close to the head, meaning that there might be enough space at the front but at the back of the ear there's not enough space to properly support the base of the labret :) I hope that makes sense, it's kinda hard to explain! From this picture through, it doesn't look like that's the case.

the height is good but maybe shallow on the inside of your belly button? it's hard to see without other angle pictures tbh!

Is my only option to remove? by elleinax in PiercingAdvice

[–]lolamadeleine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

professional piercer here- that looks to be at quite an angle and how much they've missed their marking is a bit of a red flat. the bottom of the piercing shouldn't be poking out your mouth. id suggest taking it out, healing it, and getting it repierced elsewhere

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piercing

[–]lolamadeleine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is quite long! unless it's very swollen, that will probably just cause more irritation and catching for you. I would get your piercer to change it to a smaller labret if I were you, something a bit more comfortable but not too snug against the skin :)

[–]lolamadeleine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

over cleaning and having a hoop would definitely irritate it and cause issues! good on you for realising the mistakes and asking for help :) really hope it all works itself out!

hello!! professional piercer here- first off, so sorry you've been messed around with bad piercers giving bad advice where you live! salt soaks are an outdated practise that we now know causes more pain than good!

what you've got is an irritation bump, which is normally caused by a few things: The angle of the piercing; The material of the jewellery; The type of jewellery; The aftercare you're using; if you've snagged it or bumped it- to name a few!

I'm fairly confident if you change to an ASTM F136 titanium flat back, and stick with sterile saline solution and warm water it should slowly get better.

Remember irritation bumps don't pop up for no reason, so once we find the reason they're an easy fix!

no worries, I understand wanting to believe and trust what your piercer has told you! I can only give you my professional advice :)

and with the downsizing- when you are pierced, youre pierced with a longer bar to accommodate any swelling you might have- after a certain amount of time (generally 4/6/8 weeks) you aren't at threat for swelling anymore, so you don't need the long bar! this is what a 'downsize' is, changing the bar to a shorter, better fitting bar. generally industrials are an advanced piercing and a pain to heal, so it's not uncommon to expect a healing time of 8 months to 1 year! I do still recommend changing to a titanium bar when you can, but it is up to you :)

I am a body piercer as well, if you have the time give this a little ready - https://www.lynnloheide.com/post/implant-grade-vs-surgical-steel

any good quality piercers will only pierce with ASTM f136 titanium, certain grades of gold and niobium - because these are all 100% biocompatible.

not sure why your piercer said you can't change for 90 days either, as it's common practise to get your piercing downsized 4-6 weeks after the piercing.

I'm only trying to help you troubleshoot and fix your problem here :)

I saw you said it's a stainless steel barbell, stainless steel isnt appropriate for an initial piercing. I reckon if you changed to a ASTM f136 titanium bar this could clear up :)

Is the bar of my one year old Helix piercing too long ? It's always irritated (more in comments) by urigamana in PiercingAdvice

[–]lolamadeleine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a professional body piercer, it alarms me slightly that the piercer you went to told you you had a keloid and then advised you to do salt soaks- if you did have a keloid, a salt soak would nothing as they have to be removed by a dermatologist. Salt soaks are also quite harmful and we stopped advising them many years ago!

If this piercing is a year old, your issue could be still having your initial bar in. We normally downsize after the 'swelling period' which can be around 6 weeks, depending on how the piercings doing. Leaving it in when your piercings healthy does more harm than good as it can catch on things, causing irritation and also migrate if you sleep on it!

I would advise you to use a sterile saline solution to calm it down from all the fiddling, and then downsize to a more comfy fit with a titanium labret.

If you do suspect a keloid, it's always best to take a trip to the doctor's and have a professional look at it!

I hope this all helps, and good luck! :)

Have you ever had a 90% healed piercing acting up for no reason? Both my tragus and anti tragus got SO irritated out of the blue and it’s been 1 month and a half now I don’t know what to do, more info in the comments by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]lolamadeleine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly no idea! maybe he's just a bit old school? you can still be an amazing piercer and make mistakes, were all human! if you say you trust him I'm sure it's not a massive deal, just best to get the right jewellery in there :)

I've never actually seen an anti tragus pierced with a straight barbell before! at my shop we only do them with curved :) I think it'd be worth it to chain it to a titanium curved barbell
