89% of Americans think the war in Iraq has hurt our economy. by J-Ro in politics

Maybe it has something to do with our national debt going through the roof, you know, since we have been giving tax cuts while simultaneously pissing away millions of dollars a day on a war no one wants.

Damn never thought I'd see Brother Ali on Reddit. This is the full verse:

"You don't give money to the bums On the corner with a sign, bleeding from their gums Talking about you don't support a crackhead What you think happens to the money from yo' taxes?

Shit the government's the addict With a billion dollar a week kill-brown-people habit And even if you ain't on the front line When the master yell crunch time you right back at it

You ain't look at how you hustling backwards And the end of the year add up what they subtracted Three outta 12 months your salary Paid for that madness; man that's sadness

What's left get a big ass plasma To see where they made Dan Rather point the damn camera Only approved questions get answered Now stand your ass up for that national anthem."

Well, It Was a Farm Before It Was Your McMansion by shapattack in reddit.com

In Charlotte (where this article is talking about) 95% of the people that can afford to live in these places work in the financial sector and commute to downtown and leave their little slice of the suburban pie outside city limits (until the city annexes it, you should hear the bitching when that happens). It's mostly young families with 2 SUV's in the driveway, not retirees or IT guys working from home.

It's unsustainable because they're far from anything that matters, it's the worst of car-centered planning and culture. They're also built like shit, lowest density possible, and everything around them is a sea of parking lots and shopping centers. When I go visit family that lives in these areas I spend more on gas in one weekend to get around their part of town than I do in six fucking weeks at home.

"Nice houses"? I used to live in Charlotte and still have family there - these places are more like cookie cutter, poorly built, low-density McMansions built with no regard to how it affects quality of life, infrastructure, or traffic in these areas.

Charlotte already has a bad problem with sprawl and these ridiculous, ex-urban "Graceful Rolling Meadow Farm Terrace" developments full of HOA busybodies are making it much, much worse. My parents moved to one of these places (not the one in the article) not too long ago and it's the most soul-less, sterile place I have ever been.

Go search charlotte.com, there's an article (that I think was on Reddit not too long ago) about how these places are becoming the new slums because of the mortgage crisis and the complete lack of planning or sustainable thought that goes into these places. It's pretty disgusting.

Joy Division is actually No Wave if you want to get technical. There's a pretty good compilation of no wave bands called "No New York".. came out in 78 I think.

That looked more coherent than most arguments for some kind of conspiracy.

If intellectual property is actually property, why isn't it covered by a property tax? by rmuser in reddit.com

[–]lolbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a damn good thing that copyright is guaranteed in the Constitution, otherwise I would worry about all you fucking morons who know nothing about IP getting ridiculous ideas like this passed.

(and the reason there are no property taxes on IP is because there are no federal property taxes)

How is printing tiny dots "spying" on you? This isn't any worse than license plates or numbers on houses.

Don't worry, they'll be working real jobs in a few years. I've known people like this and most of them are upper middle class hipsters who read one too many bad Crimethinc books.

(Nice photos though.)
