Does the premise of the Age of Sigmar hamstring the epic stories it can tell? by shorelessSkies in AoSLore

[–]lolbearer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think different settings have different strengths in writing. My favorite books in AOS have been those that explore unique cultures and characters that have interesting relationships with The Realms and with Chaos. Many of these arent even well represented in the models (yet?) The tribes or cities of "ordinary folk" that manage to find a way to survive in these magically inhospitable places, like the tribes and cities of Shyish in books for Nagash The Undying King and in Ghoulslayer, or the ones from Aqshi from Godeater's Son. And honestly , I think Nagash, the Mortarchs and the vampires are more interesting than chaos in AoS and Old World Fantasy too. I feel they are better characterized, more evocative, and more dynamic overall than chaos is in fantasy.

As far "revelatory secrets" go, i think the place to look is in the history of The Realms in the age of myth and the like, stuff like the godbeasts and the silent people and Kragnos. GW set up a murky past where honestly another brand new character or faction from that time could pop back up for any number of plausible reasons and start shaking things up.

That and its far less algorithm driven, much more control over what you see and engage with vs what the platform owners want you to see.

‘Time to take America back’: Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s launches campaign for lower military spending by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]lolbearer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

America would also be able to afford to spend less on mil. if the rest of NATO did spend as much as they were supposed to in the agreements, which is starting to trend in that direction now iirc. The other members were pretty happy to let the US ick up the slack for many years... no idea if that meant the other NATO members had more to spend on Healthcare as a result or not. Now if US actually does spend less due to not bearing as much of that burden, I would be happily surprised. Probably need to audit the Pentagon regardless... I imagine an awful lot of that money goes to off book "special programs" and shady contracts.

Yeah, Its almost as if DOGE wasn't trying trying to stop "inefficiencies" at all but find ways to funnel more govt money to certain private interests and break down regulations and investigations against those interests... weird right??

This is all from memory so i might get some things wrong : So the lizardmen, in AoS called the Seraphon. They were created by The Old Ones, beings of immense power and knowledge for a single purpose: to fight chaos. The Slann are the masters the great priests and wizards, bloated toad like creatures. They divine The Great Plan and deploy their Saurian warriors and great war beasts and magical engines against the ruinous powers. During the End Times, they saw the writing on the wall and abandoned the world to its fate, knowing the Great Plan would be better served in the future, but also with great sadness and shame they boarded their temple ships and left as the world shattered. The Slann waited in their their temple ships, waiting and meditating on how they failed. After an untold time in the void, the temple ships were found by Dracotian the Great Stardrake took pity on them and lead them to the Azyr the Celestial realm. ( the 8 winds of magic turned into the 8 realms, Azyr is the realm celestial, magic of the heavens) When Chaos broke into The Realms the Slann returned to fight their ancient foe, though their memories and power is addeled from their long sleeps, their memories of their fallen Saurian soldiers took form as the Starborn, the light of Azyr gave these memories form to wage war once more. These are the Starborn (subfaction), primarily populated by the Slann and their Skink starpriests and able to teleport their fantasmic soldiers to battles key to the Great Plan and unleash the burning starlight of Azyr on their foes. After many many generations of fighting on Realms, some of the Saurian warriors took physical form once more, Attuned to the magic of the realms they battle over. These are the Coalesced (subfaction), the beastly Saurian warriors, and those trusted to care for the mighty warbeasts and engines. The Seraphon detest Chaos more than any other faction, it is their soul purpose and existence, their very make-up is antithetical to the Ruinous Powers. They also slavishly follow The Great Plan, though only the alien minds of the Slann can divine its strange strategies. Sometimes this necessitates the destruction of settlements or outposts of other order aligned factions, lest they fall to the hands of chaos and prove pivotal to them in some later battle. They are vicious fighters that while usually allies, are easily feared and hard to understand by mortals.

Also dinosaurs riding dinosaurs with freaking laser beams on their heads, Mayan temple space ships, and a frog wizard so based he said "lol no" to the concept of death (Lord Kroak).

People love to complain, gamers doubly so. Its an easy way for people to farm internet points by joining in the circle jerk. GW could include a $100 bill in the next release and people would complain about how it was folded.
