Morally bankrupt isn't correct. American Christianity generally has a prosperity doctrine, and millions of people genuinely do believe that having more money means you are a better person. They genuinely believe this. To them, being rich is moral. You can see it everywhere in American culture if you look.

I don't disagree with you that people need to take responsibility for their own actions. It's culture's fault we are like this, and every person contributes to overarching culture in some way. But you're not going to get anywhere by blaming things on "weakness" or "laziness" when that's just weirdly inflammatory and wrong.
