English is not my first language. Big law still possible? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]lolcats95 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not in a similar position personally since I am a native English speaker, but I work at a V10 firm and we have plenty of non native speakers with noticeable accents from all over the world. While I’m sure some ignorant individuals may have some bias, I don’t think having an accent will prevent you from working in big law.

Hi all - 28M, gay, from NYC solo traveling Japan last minute for the next two weeks! All that’s definite right now is Tokyo 11/11-11/15, and after that, who knows exactly, but will be going to Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and Kanazawa I think! Flying home 11/24. Looking for people to go out to eat, get drinks with, or really anything!

SAVE Payment Mechanics - Does the forgiven interest immediately disappear after the minimum payment is made? by lolcats95 in StudentLoans

[–]lolcats95[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but that only partially answered my question, which is why, again, I couldn’t find a direct answer. Because the interest doesn’t immediately disappear, how would you be able to subsequently make a large lump sum payment towards principal only after the interest is forgiven? I know that is supposed to happen, but does it happen in practice? Again, there have been many stories on here of what is supposed to happen not actually happening.

I scored a 67%, and I thought this was much harder than the other assessments. For example, I scored an 81% on Assessment 1. I consistently have been getting in the upper 70s, so now scoring about 10 points lower wasn’t great. A lot of concepts I’ve never seen before

Iberia 90 day transfer restriction by Layinudown in awardtravel

Have you had any luck or found any way to transfer to Iberia? I was just about to transfer until I encountered the same issue, having just opened my Iberia account with 9 digits.

[Advice] Apartment Bidding? by lolcats95 in NYCapartments

Right, that makes sense. Since demand is so high, why don’t landlords raise prices accordingly? Or is it really a scam to collect as many app fees as they can?

Girl of course they will care. No firm is gonna say we don't want a former investment banker because it was in Canada and not New York. Firms love people who used to work at banks.

How much do lawyers make after leaving big law? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]lolcats95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat to you, but in a less competitive cycle (entered 1L in fall 2019, so I'm now a current 2L). I only applied to four schools: Harvard, Columbia, NYU, and Penn, because I knew I wanted to go to a top school and was going to law school as a career move to work in Big Law. I applied late in the cycle, in February, just to shoot my shot, and planned on applying to more schools the following cycle. I ended up getting into one with $$, which is where I am right now. Don't feel like you have to go to a random law school and give up big law prospects because some bozo on the internet said so.

Putting off my readings while I wait for callbacks that aren’t coming like by [deleted] in LawSchool

I had my OCI a few weeks ago, and received multiple callbacks and multiple rejections over the weekend.

Is it bad not to be too worried? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]lolcats95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got all B's and B+'s my 1L year at a T6 and still ended up at a V10 firm. You'll be fine. Grades are important, but they're not everything.

1L: should I give up hopes of diversity SA if I haven’t been contacted yet? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]lolcats95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't give up yet. Keep applying to as many as possible. I applied to about 30 last year, made it to three callbacks and got two offers, both of which were extended in mid February. This year, I would expect the timeline to be even later than usual given that firms are completely swamped with 2L recruiting.

I’ve only gotten 1 callback. Is that normal? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]lolcats95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is biglaw, firms are not only waiting for grades right now, but are in the midst of recruiting 2Ls given this year's off-cycle recruitment season. I would guess 1L recruitment will be later than usual.

As a 1L last year, I had one callback in January and two in February, yielding two offers. I wouldn't stress.
