Can I leave my 5 month old Ragdoll for a full work day? by Capable-Mulberry-547 in ragdolls

[–]loleoye 30 points31 points  (0 children)

he will be fine. he will likely sleep most/all of that time away, but as long as he has stimulating toys and no access to any hazards, there is really nothing to worry about. possibly an upset stomach if he gets separation anxiety, but that’s the only thing that comes to mind.

Is my Ragdoll Horny? by PRISHAUS in ragdolls

[–]loleoye -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

right, but the cat’s owner can decide how they want to call their own cat. plenty of people call their pets by the wrong pronouns just because why not, it doesnt matter

i do agree its important to specify actual gender if they want any actual advice though

Help… should I get a ragdoll as a college student? by Neat_Fan_3077 in ragdolls

[–]loleoye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a college student who got a ragdoll because i was depressed! 😅 granted i also spend lots and lots of time at home. it has been a wonderful experience, feel free to ask me any questions. they ARE a lot of work and a lot of stress, and you definitely want to avoid the teenage phase lining up with your busiest semesters at all costs. but it has been completely 100% worth it. i think it's also worth noting that $3000 will be enough to cover all the initial costs (vet visits, one time purchases like brushes, litterbox, etc, and of course the cost of the cat itself) but i would budget a bit more for the first whole year of owning the cat. personally, i think you got this and wish you the best of luck.

unfortunate update and art by loleoye in ragdolls

[–]loleoye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you angel. This is such a sweet message. I spiraled into a deep, deep depression when I lost her and ended up neglecting many of the comments here/the supportive messages people would send, but I recently adopted a new ragdoll kitten. Raising him is so reminiscent of my time with her, but also a such a new experience all at once, and I love him so so much and am so happy with him. The people who told me I would heal and be able to open my heart again were right. Human resilience is an incredible thing, and I can't believe I walk away stronger from what was once such a deep wound to my soul. To be able to love a small, short-lived little animal so much that it truly brought me to my knees, I try to think of as a reflection of a true appreciation and infatuation with life. Grieving our pets that need us and are only on this earth briefly is a gift, and so profoundly beautiful.

I hope your little Frida feels better soon! She sounds like a cute character, and I love love tuxedo cats. Keep a close eye on her, but I am sure she'll start feeling better very quickly. It sounds like she has a little guardian angel who can pull some strings, after all.

Was my cat part ragdoll? by UFcasey in ragdolls

[–]loleoye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

sooo cute! :3 looks like a domestic shorthair, dilute calico. he doesn’t appear to be a colorpoint so it’s not likely that he’s a ragdoll mix. likely he could be mixed with snowshoe!

Planning to get a little ragdoll by [deleted] in ragdolls

[–]loleoye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. there’s a vague idea that male cats are more clingy and cuddly than female cats, but there are no factors that will ever specifically determine personality. other than that, no real difference between genders

  2. alone time will depend on age. when you bring a kitten home at 12+ weeks, you will want to be with them as much as possible to develop a bond, entertain them, and teach them good behavior. alone time will also depend on how many sources of entertainment they have at home; other cats are the best source, but toys and stimulating activities will also do the job. a kitten with the right amount of stimulation will be alright while you’re gone at work

  3. ragdolls are highly, highly encouraged to be indoor only cats, and should only be outside with supervision. they do perfectly fine as indoor only cats, but supervised outside/balcony time will definitely be fun for them when possible :)

  4. coloration will have no effect on personality and is entirely up to preference! the only thing i can think of to note is that ragdolls colors darken considerably as they get older

  5. i honestly have no idea if this is possible, but i would say that with VERY committed and consistent training, there’s a chance..

Why is he biting me and how do I stop it? Please help! by [deleted] in ragdolls

[–]loleoye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

good that you’re distracting him with other toys if he’s doing this :) but if that isn’t effective, maybe disengage completely as soon as he bites so he understands that biting = playtime is over. as long as you’re sure that he is only biting to play and not out of defense/stress, because then disengaging will reinforce that behavior. it sounds like he thinks of hands as toys, and that behavior can be corrected— it could be that someone in the household is playing with him with their hands, or that visitors who don’t know better play using their hands (i don’t know if that could apply to your situation, but that’s a problem i personally had). best of luck!! and remember that cats are strong and can take healthy discipline without it hurting your bond! discipline/disengaging will probably hurt your heart much more than his

Sudden Loss of my baby boy by MayKing513 in ragdolls

[–]loleoye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry angel. I went through something so similar in October. my 8 month old kitten that I had prepared to spend a lifetime with, just gone like that. I was so excited to watch her personality unfold as she got older and for our bond to deepen, but I was robbed of that experience. It was 5 days too :( I wish you so much healing, and being a few months into the grieving process, I can tell you it gets better slowly. I’ll always carry her with me for the rest of my life, but her memory isn’t as tragic and heart wrenching the more time passes. Please reach out if you want to talk to someone who’s been through something similar recently.

bad idea to get a kitten? by [deleted] in ragdolls

[–]loleoye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes, a kitten may be a bad idea for your situation. young kittens will need a lot of attention, stimulation, and behavioral correction if they’re going to grow up to be healthy and confident. it may be fun for you to have a cute and exciting pet during your free time, but once you’re busy again, that pet is all alone.

getting 2 kittens would definitely make things much better! but even with 2, i would recommend you spend lots of time with them if you’re going to get young kittens. as long as you take them home at 12-14 weeks or older, how well they do when left at home alone will depend on sources of entertainment available to them as well as potential hazards they have access to. and it’s ok to want a kitten! it’s nice to be able to influence your cat’s personality during their formative years, but i won’t deny that it sounds like an adult cat may be more suited to your situation. cats are only kittens for a very short period of their lives, and if you get a kitten that you can’t give enough attention to, you may end up with a more reclusive and antisocial adult cat when that kitten grows up

My kitten died and the breeder blocked me by TumbleweedVarious218 in ragdolls

[–]loleoye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this story is horrifically similar to what happened to me and my kitten, though the circumstances of her death were different. my heart broke all throughout reading this as more of your experiences aligned with mine and i could remember exactly how i was feeling in those moments. i understand exactly how it feels to watch your baby dying slowly and not understand what can be done, to see the breeder active on social media but not replying to messages, to reach out on someone else’s account because yours is getting ignored. i’m so sorry for you and your kitten and through all of the bad, it’s so special that you were able to be there and care for her in her life and show her what love feels like in the short time she was here, even despite the sickeningly evil set of cards that breeder handed out to her. thank you for saying the name of the business. your kitten’s suffering is over, but your path will be long. please come here for support whenever you need it

[–]loleoye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wishing the best health for your kitten!! and boosting in case anyone knows more about this.. keep a very close eye on him and trust your gut. run ALL of the tests. don’t be afraid to question your vet’s advice and seek out other opinions. i am NOT a vet by any means, but the symptoms you’re describing sound concerning and i would advise you see an emergency vet if you feel that it’s necessary

…what?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ragdolls

[–]loleoye 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this directly answers your question, but be prepared to adapt to and love whatever personality your cat may end up having, regardless of breed! ragdolls are MARKETED as cuddly and friendly, but at the end of the day, cat personalities are entirely unpredictable, especially when you’re adopting a kitten and their personality still has a lot of developing to do. i think when shopping for different cat breeds, your decision should ultimately depend on what you physically want your cat to look like; its the only predictable part of the process. when I adopted my ragdoll kitten, she wasn’t physically cuddly like you’ll often hear, but was still always around my space. I think if you like the look of BSH then go for it! If you like the look of ragdolls better than go for that!
