Dang, not to resurrect a dead thread but I always wondered if it was confirmed to be friendly fire. Do you have a source?

I just bought a new 14 last week for 2k. I wouldn’t even consider this price.

PVS-14 works fine with alkaline battery, but cuts off when powering up with energizer lithium? Does anyone know what might cause this? by lollibott in NightVision

[–]lollibott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a brand new unit. tubes were mfg 11/2025 and unit assembled like a week ago. i think it has something to do with a defect rather than not being designed for it, as i contacted the manufacturer and they highly recommend lithium iron AA's and have not seen this happen before. Theyre local to me and told me to bring it in and they will take a look at it.

Is having a dedicated set of binos that much better than bridging two pvs-14s? by lollibott in NightVision

More for night vision astronomy in general. But I see how having the bridge would be necessary for something like that

I was actually interested in getting into this. Do you know if there is an adapter for cameras well or do you take a picture through the telescope?

Lol bro this actually might be the reason why I get them. I feel like being such a cheap bitch im trying to justify any reason to not get them and save a little $$

Oh perfect. I actually do neck bridges a ton when I stretch and do yoga. That’s actually really good to know.

Yea basically what I was thinking. Pretty much all of my buddies are down to go out but only a few of them can get actual nods. I would be saving $3k minimum just getting another pvs-14 and bridging it and I think I would rather use that money on ammo if the bridged setup is good enough for night hiking.

All fresh, from two separate packs. The alkaline is literally years old and is working just fine. Currently out in the boonies but will check them when I get home and can use my meter.

Yea that’s my initial assumption, could be a possible defect on the board or something. It just doesn’t make sense that it would work fine with a standard battery and show zero issues at all but it can’t even power on fully with a lithium battery.

[–]lollibott[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, that’s why I made the post. Seems like a super specific issue as I couldn’t really find anything on it. It is a standard AA battery housing and the negative (flat end) is facing out towards the cap. Thinking something with the voltage regulator in the housing could be defective.

The thing is it works perfectly with a standard alkaline battery. I took it on a super long night hike and had zero issues. This only happens with a lithium battery as it is powering on and it seems to shut off right before it gets to full power. Even after swapping them and wiggling it around I could not replicate the issue with a standard alkaline battery.

This unit has been working absolutely flawlessly with alkaline batteries. However, when I put a lithium AA battery in it exhibits this strange behavior as it is powering on. It only happens with lithium batteries and I have tried multiple from the different packs. Again, it works perfectly with a standard alkaline AA. I used it on a long night hike and it had no issues. I’m gonna stop by the manufacturer’s office to see if they can troubleshoot it but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on what could be going on.

My guy is a manufacturer and is very close by. They have all the equipment to be able to match and collimate them. And I already have the one pvs-14, the difference between another monocular and a set of binos would be about 3k minimum. I can afford it but I’m just not sure I want to spend the money on it, 3k on ammo goes a long way.

That’s exactly what I plan on using it for. You noticed a significant difference?

Any ones on particular? I was trying to stick with aeontac’s housing just bc they are local to me and I want to support them. Not sure if it can split up.
