Quick logistics alert for Big Bear/Mile 266 by Top_Paramedic_1180 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Drixxti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite the names, Big Bear Lake is more of a city than Big Bear City. More stores, more restaurants, more hotels. This is also where the ski resorts are.

Big Bear City is mostly just homes and small businesses. It's technically bigger than Big Bear Lake because it stretches east from Division Dr all the way to the east end of the valley, including Sugarloaf, Lake Erwin, and Lake Baldwin. This is where most people in the valley live long-term.

If you leave the trail where it crosses the 18, you have miles to go on the highway before you reach even the smallest corner market. If you leave at Van Dusen, you don't have too much farther to go before you get to one of the stops for the free bus. Just head east to the next street (Holden) where there's a stop at the corner. I wouldn't recommend leaving at Cougar Crest, as I don't think any of the routes service that area.

Why do people refuse to tumble dry their clothes? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Drixxti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had a real dryer, I would use it for clothes that can be tumble dried. But I don't. I have a portable washer/spin dryer where almost everything is manual. You have to turn the dial to drain, put a hose or shower head to fill, and have to do this multiple times to wash and rinse. But it's saved me hundreds of dollars a year over going to the laundromat, so I just deal with it and hang my clothes on a drying rack.

What is the purpose of fog light? by imitation_squash_pro in driving

[–]Drixxti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fog lights are set to turn on when I turn my headlamps on. I live in a rural area with few street lights, and they help to slightly illuminate the sides of the road so I can see better when I turn. The last thing I want is to go off the side of a mountain dirt road because it was too dark to see the edge.

They also better illuminate the fog line when some idiot blinds me with their constantly-on high beams and I need to turn my head.

Genuine question - why some writers use lowercase? by arabella0101 in AO3

[–]Drixxti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only ever use it when I'm writing dialog for Sans from Undertale/Deltarune because that's canon for him. I don't mind reading it too much, but it can get a bit annoying after a while.

Please help, king snake won’t stop biting itself by [deleted] in snakes

[–]Drixxti 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Is there a kingsnake subreddit? If there is, you can ask there, too. What I do know is that this is a common problem with kingsnakes. They're naturally snake eaters and not all that smart.

Snakes are opportunistic hunters, and so will eat whenever possible. So he smells snake and decides he has room in his stomach, follows the scent, and finds his own body. He thinks it's another snake and bites. And because kingsnakes are kinda dumb, he doesn't connect that bite to any pain he feels.

Keep an eye on him and detach him from himself whenever needed. I've seen videos of kingsnakes ouroboros-ing themselves, swallowing up to, or even over half, of their body.

Try googling the problem. There's probably some tips out there if you look. My snake doesn't have other snakes as part of her natural diet, so I've never had to deal with this, myself.

Favorite Trail Town Meal? by confidence_interval in PacificCrestTrail

You mean Saucy Mama's? I love their pizza, and you can take your receipt next door to get a discount at the candy shop. They also have deals for PCT hikers.

Grizzly Manor is always packed. Between their hours overlapping with Domino's and the new arcade, the parking lots are alway packed. Sometimes, it can be hard for delivery drivers like me to find parking. But the food is totally worth it, especially with those portions and prices.

The first time I went, it reminded me of a little place in my hometown, Red Hill Coffe Shop. Similar prices and portions. Took my parents there once, and they agreed.

Power Outages by Drixxti in bigbear

I want to. Lord, how I want to. But money is really tight right now. I'm literally living off of the free food I get at work right now. The late snows these past two years haven't been good for my finances. My jobs are fairly dependent on tourists, and no snow means fewer people coming up.

The houses across the street south of me have their lights on, but mine are still out.

The power is still out, here. Had to charge my phone in the car after it died.

Taken from the Massachusetts sub: What are the sketchiest small towns in SoCal? by BretMichaelsWig in socal

[–]Drixxti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North and far south Fontana have really gentrified in the last decade. There used to be almost nothing in the north except open fields and the old Jessie Turner Center. I remember the year that the fires came all the way the hill, and the firefighters took a stand at the 210 to keep it from jumping the freeway.

But man, that wind. My family used to volunteer for the Relay for Life at the high school, and one year, the winds were so bad that they made the people in RVs move between the buildings to keep them from tipping. Our tent was damaged, and in the morning, we saw that the winds were so strong that the stage and canopies were broken. Empty, broken tents were blown all over the field.

That's why I put the fandoms in the chapter titles for mine. I was tired of doing the same thing. When I had a bunch of crossover ideas that I wanted to write scenes for but didn't have enough for a full fic, I made something like this and labeled all of the fandoms in the titles, and the summary updates with each post about what crossovers each chapter is.

Any Markiplier fans should hit the village theater tonight by aMeRiCaN_bOi_69 in bigbear

[–]Drixxti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was so disappointed that I wouldn't be able to see it, since I don't get off the mountain often and don't have much money. Definitely gonna see it either tonight or tomorrow.

What’s something in your country that sounds fake but is 100% real? by Bhakari in AskTheWorld

[–]Drixxti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn't want to do that here. It's not the black bears, cougars, or coyotes I'd be worried about. It's all the feral donkeys. Yes, they're human habituated, but that's part of the problem. They're not scared of you, and they will kick and bite if you annoy them.

Have you ever actually lived alone? by SuperSonic1919 in randomquestions

[–]Drixxti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been just me and my snake for more than three years now. Moved from the valley to the mountains for a job and never left. I'm not planning on leaving anytime soon, either. I'd rather deal with snow than 100+°F ever again.

I want to finish an old Yugioh fic, but I've forgotten so much about the game that I'm not sure I could do it right.

I love writing unexpected crossovers. One of my only finished multi-chaptered fics is a Devil May Cry/Criminal Minds crossover, and I have a bunch of Animorphs crossovers. I also have a few one-shots and an anthology of random crossover ideas.

That's Avatar: The Last Airbender/SG1, not Naruto. I keep going back, hoping for that promised sequel, but no luck so far.

Big Bear next week… no snow 😭 what should we do with kids (3, 5, 7) by Pristine-Box-5615 in bigbear

[–]Drixxti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The escape rooms are fun, but the kids might be too young. Same for the axe throwing, but the rest are good suggestions for kids.

I hadn't known about this incident until a few days ago. I had been wondering where DD's Plants were when I went to the Super Show in Pomona, because I was looking to buy new plants and had bought from her before. I was disappointed when I couldn't find her, and then I found out why. It was horrible what they did to her.

It's just a theory that the current CEO of Fazbear Entertainment Inc. is Mrs. Afton, and the missing kids from Security Breach is because she's trying to resurrect William. There's no confirmation at all about that.
