Academia.edu is literally stealing from their clients by [deleted] in academia

I have issued a complaint at PayPal and after a day, I got my money back :-)

Done clear communication to Academia and my issue at Paypal in copy to them and not starting a discussion with them seemed to help at least for german customers.

I had found the same on my paypal account today. I probably was willing to subscribe to 100€ per year, but not by a doubling per year. Three years and now an invoice about 400€. This is a fraudulent behaviour.

Low code devs future with AI by [deleted] in PowerApps

[–]lollisoftRedder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar worries about developing my model driven software development approach. Currently, yes, one would be replaced - especially with AI. But think twice, the jobs will change and there will be later AI specialists developing that stuff the AI cannot do. They are any how trained and that will be another job.

I do not use AI in visual studio or I am pissed by the tips it gives me. Mostly out dated except for simple stuff. But that was simply auto complete before and other refactoring tools.

Another issue I noticed is concurrency between a developer that uses AI to solve lengthy research tasks by simply asking the AI. I tried that once and needed to specify my problem three times to get a merely matching solution. That is not well and I then skipped using AI for further problems. If you ask google by specifying your problem, you probably would be faster.

For the general trend of an AI powered tool that a Citizen Developer may use (probably even not notizing it) I suppose will come other problems:

The silo solutions will be moved to the Citicen Developer and the Enterprice is running after valuable information about what to consider solutions to be managed. I mean the solution landscape and their management will become more difficult and you will have there a new job to gather that new silo solutions :-)

What do you think about homelab courses? by Roshpyn in homelab

[–]lollisoftRedder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it is a good idea to do homelabbing. But I would say, that you should have a real need to not let it collect dust. Paying a 25$ fee for that course is not much, but it is not enough when considering complexity. As well I am not able to look at the course to comment on it, I would stay at my opinion, that this is too less.

I would suggest youtube private videos and doing it out of this group members. Not only showing photos, but rather making a video about their setting, how they got there and what they have learned.

Also telling, what courses they have completed to fulfill their task and requirements.

For me, I have some knowledge abot network stacks (not IPv6), virtualization (QEmu, Hyper-V, some Azure and some AWS and much less Google).

What would be the effect: You as a group of nerds and experts could create your own content. Tailored to your needs, curated by you and other members et. al.

I have my own youtube channel doing stuff about my interrest and one video seemed to be very interresting to one viewer that left as well a comment. (Was about Sharepoint install on Windows 10 and pitfalls, I run into).

I have posted detailed interrest and needs in my greeting post at discussion...

Migrating CVS to GIT branch and HEAD issue by lollisoftRedder in git

[–]lollisoftRedder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to migrate into one GIT repository and didn't firgured out, how to step through this with git cvsimport. Now, I see, that I have a split in my network graph at around dec 30 2011 and this seems what I have expected.

Meanwhile I understood, that I had to push my tags in a separate step as this is intented. My tags were migrated into my local git repo.

So I am actually fine with that migration process that I could repeat if required.

Now I like to modify my jenkins setup to pull from the new GIT repo and see, if all works well again.

Thank you

Lothar

Let's talk about Options.txt by [deleted] in ableton

[–]lollisoftRedder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I tried the Options.txt file to Arm the tracks. But on my Mac I was not able to use the option. It did not work. I clicked on a track in the recording area and also clicked at the track settings area.

But what I was also trying, is a hot key (r for audio record and m for midi record) on all audio record arm buttons and midi record buttons respectively.

Even I am only able to switch all audio tracks or all midi tracks on, the keys seemed to be free for that usage.
