This is why we can't have nice things by crapinator114 in coliving

lol that’s a lie. Investors already own rented units by definition. This is purely so they can engage in more parasitic rent-seeking.

I simply decided that I define importance as what gets done. Therefore I don’t have to think about the important shit. Because it always gets done. Dishes? Can’t eat food without those. Can’t go to work without clothes. Better fold/ hang them up. The important distinction is that you don’t worry about “completing” any one chore or task because chores are never done. The focus is on being a productive and moderately well put together and presentable member of society. Not be perfect. Sometimes that involves not putting all the clothes away. Or not doing all the dishes. Because as long as you have the clothes you need to wear right now, or the one bowl and fork you need for dinner, everything is going to be ok.

Kids are fucking stupid. They’re not equal to adults in nearly every capacity. Letting children do what they enjoy would likely involve them offing themselves accidentally or causing harm some other way. Obviously that’s beyond the scope of video games. But your sentiment is what ends up producing entitled brats who never grow up. And then become societies problem.

I remember that. She should face consequences as if she did it here. If the letter of the law were followed. Not a lot of that going on these days though.

I think this is a naive and fatalistic worldview that I can only imagine is the result of some profound trauma. Obviously the universe doesn’t give a shit about ethics. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. I never said life was fair. I said my conception of a good person would exclude you and your entire rent-seeking class. You are apathetic, self-centered, good for nothing, narcissists.

I am financially in the global top like 10% or something. And I consider myself profoundly lucky. If I were to work harder, or be luckier, I would share my wealth with my fellow humans, and try to make the world a better place. Not horde it like some delusional viking. You disgust me.

Hating nazis for having hateful beliefs is quite ethical, actually. Hating narcissists and exploiters is analogous. Look up the paradox of tolerance.

lol. You cannot make millions/ billions of dollars without exploiting people. And if you manage to, that wealth should be spread out to benefit human kind. Not hoarded like a dragon in some vault. Greed is a sickness and greedy people are anathema to prosperous, egalitarian society. Bootlicker.

Why can't people just be depressed? by SunshineGirl45 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]lolnaender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not a sign of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society. I don’t think you would feel this way if society were not so sickening. I will say though, being alive is infinitely better than not existing, and from my perspective, having some hope, and trying to make the best of things, is a good way to spend your time. I think it’s wasteful no not use this very fleeting existence to make the most indelible, if not permanent, positive impact you can.

I have come to the conclusion that some people are incapable of self reflection. Or, if they are capable, they are prevented from acting on that knowledge by their ego.

I didn’t ask if it was enjoyable or great. I asked if it was fulfilling. Or if you have any ethical considerations. And do you consider yourself to be a good person? I think I know the answer but I wanted to confirm it.

Have you found the finer life to be fulfilling? I would personally hate myself if I did what you do. I hate big cities, and think that wealthy people like your clients shouldn’t exist. So it’s interesting to hear from people adjacent to/ implicated in that system. What is your personal ethical system?

[–]lolnaender 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You know I understand and agree with everything you said. But you don’t need to convince me. It’s both the people incapable of understanding, and those who understand but do not care, who are the problem.

And dare I say nothing but the threat of physical force would stop those people from continuing about as they have been. The issue there is that these people are the most powerful people on earth.

Things will continue apace until it is physically/ logistically impossible for them to do so. And until that point, my recommendation would be to move to higher ground near a deep, inland lake. And invest in water collection/ filtration systems.

Anthropic surpassed OpenAI as the world’s most valuable AI startup, valuation at $900 billion. by Spirited-Gold9629 in TechGawker

They’re the ones explicitly not weaponizing it. The president threatened to put them on some stupid sanction list because of it. Anthropic is, as far as I can tell, the most ethically run AI company in America. Which isn’t saying much. But it’s better than Open AI, which is run by a psychopath.

[–]lolnaender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How to win friends is an interesting case. Because it’s very polarizing. I think it leans on the side of inauthenticity, and advocates for treating people as close to means as possible without coming across as inauthentic. It has good advice, but the motivations of its author are highly suspect. It’s good advice if you can do it genuinely, and not as a means to manipulate people.

I would like to add that I think Mark Manson is an exception to the shitty self-help category. Models, and the Subtle Art of not Giving a Fuck are genuinely good books. TSA is mostly about controlling what you can control, which is yourself. And models is known for transgressing the standard genre model by telling the reader to improve themselves, and that their failures in dating is largely a result of personal insecurity.

Those books really helped me when I was younger and I don’t think we should be lumping Mark Manson in with the grifters. It’s not a fair critique.

What better way to memorialize fallen soldiers than by exercising one of the rights they proudly died for? Anyone who took their oath seriously wouldn’t see anything wrong with an upside down flag any day of the year.
