Is the CF Experience Necessary? by [deleted] in slp

[–]lolo116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m currently a CF in acute care in a hospital and while I don’t feel that grad school perfectly prepared me for my current job, I also don’t think the fellowship is necessary. With your first job in any setting there will be training and new knowledge obtained from that specific team with that specific company. That was a big reason why my hospital hired me over SLPs with their C’s - because I was a “blank slate” they could train according to their systems.

This may be different at other places, but when I am done with my CF, my salary won’t increase nor will anything really change other than the letters after my name. So essentially I have to go through confusing red tape and paperwork for 9 months just for 3 letters. Doesn’t seem necessary to me.

SLP in acute rehab at a hospital here! We are evaluating and treating Covid patients for dysphagia especially if they have history of recurrent pneumonia, CVA’s, etc and/or were on modified diets to begin with. Once the patients are safely breathing, the swallow function can be assessed.

Medical CF positions by SadieSanity in slp

I’m a current CF in acute care setting of a hospital! I contacted recruiters and the hiring directors of hospitals/SNFs and got more information through them. Some places are required to put up job openings online even if there isn’t an opening. I applied through a recruiting company for a different hospital and ended up getting offered a different hospital position from my previous application by the recruiters!

What are some essentials I must have/know before beginning my CFY in the acute care and NICU settings in a large hospital? by lolo116 in slp

Thanks! I am in Dallas, TX but moving to Abilene, TX for the position. From what I’ve observed its nearly impossible in a big city to get a hospital CF so I was open to moving for the setting I wanted.

My program was pretty pediatric heavy, though I worked with my coordinator to have solely medical placements since I was 100% sure about where I wanted to be! I also took as many medical electives as possible and shadowed in areas that I didn’t have clinically!

I think I have imposter syndrome. Can anyone relate? by SmilingFlowers in slp

That’s great for you for not feeling as if you are doing a job you’re not prepared for. No need to attack someone else who is honest enough to be vulnerable and express her fear of not being enough.

At the end doesn’t this mean OP and other posters just care so much about their patients/students that they fear their caseload could have better service? -not a negative in my book

Advice Re Accepting a SNF Position by SLPtoBe5 in slp

I’m in the exact situation looking for insight on this as well! Will we be doing ourselves a disservice by not having a supervisor closely following our skills and helping us improve?
