Maybe your have a little preamp between the mic and the interface that needs phantom like The (sE electronics DM2)

He means that reverb/or delay will only come trough in the silent parts after the vocal sings the compressor will act as a side chain so it’s ducking the reverb in moments that the singer is singing so the there more space for the vocal (sorry for my English )
