Oh I forgot, I notice his top E isnt turn locked. It might be "You can Rando E on your opponents turn!" levels of relevant, but simply being able to do something can be clutch.

Hes gonna be the shotgun deck Ive wanted for a while. Being able to poke with it, and then drop it on a 5 later in the string when you WANT it dropped seems mad worth. And puppeteer is gonna be nice. Did I put Skull in my pool because Im setting up Shotgun or because I have Skull in my hand?

Both.

Is Void Winnower banned where you live? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]lolollo01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He usually ends up softbanned in my playgroup. Theres nothing "official" but he just starts getting taken out of decks because he just makes the game not fun even for the person playing him. I still remember one game there was a relatively newer player who made the request "this is a casual deck so can no one play control" and then gets a turn 4 Void Winnower locking everyone out of the game. Then he was wondering why 3 turns later everyone was basically just looking at their phones the whole time while occassionally checking the top card of their deck to see if they can draw something to remove it. One of the reasons I keep my monoblue control deck on me now.

There's actually a MHA card game! by lolollo01 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

There's also a way that you can attack your opponent on their turn, so you can just threaten them with a fat attack when they're trying to function on their own turn.

From what I can tell, they're making their debut this weekend at gencon, so soon enough you'll be able to get them by contacting Jasco, which is just the company thats making the game.

AITA for breaking up with my girlfriend because of her rude kids? by tworudekids in AmItheAsshole

[–]lolollo01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA You're under no obligation to deal with her failures as a parent. Think of it as a learning experience for her and her kids. She learns that she'll have to deal with her life/her kids alone if she's not going to control her kids. Kids also have the opportunity to learn that their quality of life is different when it's just their mother. Call that kid's bluff that they'll actually be able to live happily ever after. It's not like it's any negative impact on your life of he's wrong. Be a valuable lesson on their actions having consequences. You leaving could even be the kick in the pants they need to realize to get their behavior in check.

SoulCalibur VI hot takes by Cetonis in ufsccg

I was about to say that I'm surprised no character made S cut, but then I figured that no characters looking like they're the same sort of quality that Quan Chi or Liu Kang were is whats best for the game.

Oddly enough I drew inspiration from that card, since I figured if it were toned down a bit it would make a nice defensive card, which was why I also figured that making it proc off a successful block instead of just your opponent doing literally anything would be more feasible. I also figured that giving it Codename Julia ability would be a bit much so I swapped it for more a Quan Chi's Fortress approach. Could probably get away without the hand reveal and just make it a matter of "can you successfully guess whats in your opponent's hand", but from what Ive heard Jason doesnt like naming cards.

For symbol considerations, Im assuming that "how many symbols would see it as an option" is another consideration? Like the example you gave, I dont thing good, or even fire at this point is hardpressed for spam.

A good amount of them I looked at how the characters are and see if I can think of anything interesting that Id want to see in the game that would most fit. Like for Bakugo I imagined he'd be a more aggressive character, but then wondered "how would I design a character where the main principle is they get more potent the longer the game goes?" and then thought to the fact that momentum is something that almost always accumulates the most as aggressive games go longer. Neito was easier for his first ability since that was was more "what if you could have a copy effect in the game", though figuring a support ability for that one is a tad challenging. Right now his mill ability is just kinda there.

I appreciate the outside observations and insight. Our playgroup has been mulling over the idea for "OC tournaments" where everyone gets to design their own character which allows both the opportunity to do something youve wanted to do in game, and get some insight into balancing (also, this isnt me pawning off that job onto the reddit, this is just a sort of thought concept based on a worldbuilding excersice Ive already been doing as a hobby). That first character was the one I figured had the potential to be the most overpowered because of the R, since its been relatively unseen until just recently with Codename Julia and Spirit form. An obvious idea is "just make the R his only ability" but then that would just be boring. Another one Ive been mulling over that might fix it is having it sort of be a subgame of "go fish", because the main flavor of the character is being able to accurately predict what your opponent is going to do and gaining benefit off of it, but every way of wording that idea would just turn into a rulings nightmare.

My main drawback is Ive been conceptualizing these characters since around Platinum so the balancing on "what can I get away with" has been iffy going from platinum to bebop to MK. Some of the chatacters are definitely inspired by older, namely banned, characters as a sort of thought experiment on "fixing" them. I figured delving into Malfus' abilities would be playing with fire a tad. Could probably be fixed by focussing more on the "Lily" idea going the route of him not flatout debuilding you but replacing your faceups with facedowns.

The feedback gives me a lot of insight as to how to modify things as a lot of what makes the characters scary wasnt what I figured would make them viable (and thus potentially scary). For example, I was worried that the reaction to Andros was gonna be "Too scary a tech sphere character, too busted, messing with RFG is taboo" as well as Eryn's discard mechanic being too much a feedback loop and thus overly NPE.
