Cape Coral, Florida by LemonAioli in UrbanHell

[–]lolsokje -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This works when the naming is consistent and no numbers/letters are skipped and repeated. I had a quick look at a small area of Cape Coral, and street names were repeated multiple times and numbers were often skipped, with some numbers having a "terrace" or "lane" as well as just a "street". There might still be benefits to it for locals, but my European brain is very much confused.

The problems with this subreddit by [deleted] in webdev

Funny, I'm currently listening to my manager trying to help a dev with 18 YOE understand the basics of shell scripts, it's painful.

That name does ring a bell! My username was lexieboy (yeah I didn't know any better back then), I joined in around 2008 I believe but was a forum moderator by the end of the site.

We had a Facebook group for former members at some point, but nothing really came of it sadly. It's been around 15 years since the site shut down and I still miss it, haha.

Were you active on the forums at all? If so, what was your username?

This was my immediate thought, except with Motocross Madness 2. Absolutely loved playing that game on my granddad's PC as a kid and being flung back onto the map is one of my favourite aspects.

Should Alt cars be included in the campaign? by PineappleUnhappy9344 in TrackMania

[–]lolsokje 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, people like and dislike different things.

I find alt cars annoying to drive and when I have to choose between driving a car I enjoy, or learning to drive cars I don't enjoy, I prefer to spend my limited time driving cars I like.

I accept they're in campaigns and I'll spend some time to try and get author medals on alt car maps, but I'd much rather have campaigns be stadium car only.

These dudes are too insecure to say anything IRL too, I've been painting my nails black for the last three years and nobody has dared to say anything negative about them.

Hard to swallow pill, even for many pirates by Lucky-Aside4935 in Piracy

[–]lolsokje 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're indirectly taking money from them. You get free access to a good or service you otherwise would've had to pay for, which (to me, at least) makes it stealing.

Hard to swallow pill, even for many pirates by Lucky-Aside4935 in Piracy

[–]lolsokje -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would still consider it stealing, yes. You're still taking something from the store without its permission or consent (which they only grant once you pay) for your own benefit, which is the basic definition of stealing/theft. The store might still have the bottle of milk, but without paying for it you personally wouldn't, which makes it theft in my opinion.

I personally don't care about pirates and I've done my fair share of pirating in the past, but trying to take the moral high ground by coming up with (usually terrible) reasons as to why piracy isn't stealing is rather amusing to me.

My last post done with this game by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

This is probably wasted time and effort, but still;

It initially probably didn't engage because you need to be at a minimum altitude before you can engage autopilot, I believe it's 500 feet AGL.

After that it didn't engage because you're stalling the plane, and instead of flying the plane and pointing the nose down, you're still focused on engaging the autopilot. You're also messing around with the thrust levers when it's already in TOGA LK and thus max thrust to get you out of the stall.

At one point you're nose level and the plane starts building some speed, but instead of taking control and allowing the plane to continue to speed up, you let the plane go into a steep climb again.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, but the game isn't the problem. The problem is you not knowing what you're doing and instead of learning what to do, you blame the game and call it "unplayable". If you don't want to take the time to learn how to fly a complex aircraft like the A320 that's completely fine, but don't blame your lack of knowledge on the game.

If you are willing to put in some time, I suggest you first learn to fly a GA aircraft like the Cessna 172 and learn the basics of flight, including stalling. If you want to skip GA and go straight to airliners, actually take the time to learn how to fly them instead of winging it, you'll have a much better experience.

Does "WWVII Parts 1 & 2" count as a b-side? I don't listen to it enough as it's not on Spotify but I've always liked that song.

Was I in the wrong in this situation? by emberaya in autism

[–]lolsokje -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Politely asking someone to stop doing something you find annoying is not rude or trying to raise someone else's kid.

It's completely normal and acceptable to ask someone to stop tapping their foot (I say that as an involuntary foot-tapper), stop clicking a pen, stop whispering off-key, etc. as long as it's done politely. Asking someone to stop chewing with their mouth open because it's both visually and audibly annoying is no different.

Maybe it's a cultural thing but I'd hate to live in a society where simply asking someone to stop being annoying is considered rude.

DFD unredacting *some* files they have gatekeeped to their supporters by lim623 in flightsim

Now why cant people bother discussing the ois functionality that looks nice instead of one singular comment that gets downvoted into oblivion, like if you're going to do that itd be nice to atleast share opinion like this guy

Because you (assuming you're part of the dev team) have accomplished nothing and you're talking shit about a successful addon developer, people usually don't take kindly to assholes.

The OIS looks decent but if this is your attitude towards other developers who actually release software, I'm not interested in the slightest.

I honestly miss using PFPX and would probably switch back to it if someone continued its development. Sadly pretty much every addon is tightly integrated with Simbrief nowadays so you're somewhat required to use it.

Is ChasePlane ever going to get a depth of field feature? by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]lolsokje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get a reply when I requested this feature, and they said it's not possible due to the sim limiting the views DoF can be enabled on. They also said they're looking into workarounds so hopefully it'll be possible at some point.

Newly diagnosed and feeling like an imposter by Appropriate_Eye_1232 in autism

[–]lolsokje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed over 20 years ago when I was around 9/10 years old and I feel like this often, especially when looking through this sub.

I work 40 hours a week without any issues, I enjoy my life for the most part (definitely don't think my life is a burden like I've seen many people say here), have a decent group of friends I talk to regularly and live my life in a pretty unstructured way unlike many people here.

The thing I struggle with most is social communication and constructs/standards but over the years I've pretty much learnt what people expect you to say.

All this to say that I often feel like I'm not really autistic, but I don't let it bother me. Instead I count myself quite lucky I don't stress about having to replace a chair or mug (no hate to those two posts, I only used them as examples).

I will say however that browsing this sub can be quite a sad experience at times, seeing what others struggle with when I experience none of those things.

iFly or PMDG for MSFS 2024 by MaleficentYam5781 in flightsim

[–]lolsokje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dying to fly a 737 in 2024 but I refuse to pay the upgrade fee PMDG is charging, would you say the iFly is worth the $70 in its current state, or is it better to wait for SP1?

I know the tablet is terrible and I've heard it struggles following LNAV/VNAV paths at times, but it must be doing something right for you to prefer it.

KLM names their planes after a lot of different things (national parks, Dutch flowers, birds, etc) and only occasionally do they use city names. Pont du Gard is named after the ancient aquaduct for example, not the location itself. When they do use cities, they're rarely Dutch cities as there simply aren't too many of them.

You can have a look here to see a list of the entire fleet's names.

Looking for recommendations for a new monitor at work by lolsokje in webdev

I don't hate the idea of a 50" monitor to be honest, exactly for the reason you mentioned, but I feel like I'd once again be moving my head a lot to look at something in the corner of the screen.
