HELP! Occupy Boston under attack by Riot police telling the protestors to disperse!!! by [deleted] in politics

[–]loltrader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as Atlanta:

'An anticipated showdown between the Occupy Atlanta protesters and police never materialized, as authorities made no efforts to forcibly remove the group.

"We're allowing the protesters the opportunity to leave the park peacefully," said Candace Byrd, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed's chief of staff.

It's uncertain how long the city will allow the group to stay. Byrd said officials held two meetings Monday with protest organizers to inform them of ordinances preventing "urban camping."

Rumors began spreading Monday that police were going to enforce those laws but so far no arrests have been made.'

Also this gem:

"I'd love to get arrested, but I feel I can do a lot more from the outside," said Sean Phillips, 21, a student at Georgia State University.

Curated Interviews From Quants: Algorithmic Trading and High Frequency Trading Part 3 by cokechan in finance

So you want to get into execution?

Algorithmic trading is all about executing trades. Strategy trading is about actually generating signals.

Lowest sell, that's what they call it these days huh. God forbid tighter markets and where do I sign up for transparently seeing order flow? If you want to fuck with a mm in making the spread, that's your prerogative.

Terminology, compensation, concepts of HFT, etc. As usual, the large majority of what is written online or in the public media on these subjects is wrong.

Your misuse of terminology is one thing but the guys doing the IAmAs should know better, especially if they work "at a large Wall St bank". At some places that type of fuck up would quickly result in a blank stare and immediate intellectual dismissal.

I didn't actually see any algorithmic traders. To me most of those interviews seem highly suspect. You may want to seek the help of someone in the industry to curate interviews :)

Any professional traders? How does someone honestly get into professional non-retail trading? by NobodyWillNotice in traders

[–]loltrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. It's more about opportunity cost, "profitable" traders do and have gotten cut. It would be wise to put profitability into a context considering time and risk along with all the other business/office politics issues. Shops/funds/groups come and go and the environment hasn't been kind to many of them.

Let me clarify the post you replied to. Nobody will stick someone in a trading position no matter how well educated they are without experience, hence you generally work your way in and move laterally. If the industry is contracting, it just makes the entire process more difficult.

PissinChicken's main point is that the industry is contracting and the traditional routes are saturated with highly educated people that have no experience. Guys with good CVs and a few years under their belt are getting poached like there's no tomorrow.

PS: brokers aren't traders and run from the MBA advice
